This is really sad news. KTM livened up the 125 and 250 championships and the bikes always looked stunning. They worked hard to develop the bikes and always had innovative ideas. With no KTMs in the Dakar this year either we're all going to be suffering orange-withdrawal. I blame Gabor Talmacsi.

Boohoooo... it's a wide known fact that KTM were run by bunch of quitters. Ever since i saw long way round, my perception of KTM bikes changed dramatically. I hate people who quit before they even try.

Anyway, good riddance. We saw you, but we wont miss you.

It seams to me that KTM will put it's efforts behind Superbikes, just like Kawasaki. Really if we have KTM in Superbikes along with Ducati, Yamaha, Suzuki, Aprilla, BMW, and Kawasaki, it will prove that World superbikes is a much superior championship to the DORNA based joke.

This is sad news but to be expected.

In tough economic times companies will always drop prototype competition to concentrate on getting their current product in the public eye.

Having said that, Dorna is not helping their own cause by lurching from one stupid rule change to another.

KTM is trying really hard to make people not want to buy their bikes. The more they pull out of high exposure racing by looking like quiters the more people will think their product is weak. Same goes with Kawasaki.

Ditto most of the above - it's a shame they've pulled out. It's good to mix it up. I'm guessing that behind the scenes a deal has been done to take Marc Marquez to an Aprilia/Derbi ride and they don't have anyone to replace him. Or the money to pay a good rider to finish 5th or later. It's always the money.

I'm surprised they haven't put in for a Moto2 ride next year. Everyone else has.

cmon... pulling out of racing? The Dakar effed them cause they were winning constantly... I support the focus on 450's but they didn't give KTM any time to restructure their rally focus. They are a small company in the midst of a global recession and 250's for street are not a bike people go out an buy. It would have been nice to see them sponsor the long way round docs though... now that was stupid.
