Give up Decko, I noticed your post on the other topic. On one hand you go there is more races per season now, but on the other you go Rossi hasn't won two WC in a season. I don't know if they are forbidden from racing multiple WC in the same season, but Ago's no of WC is flawed by the MV Agusta issue. Mike Hailwood was a better rider (hence why Ago didn't start winning on the MV until Hailwood left) and Nieto won most of his in 125s.

Fighter pilots in WW2 could do 3 or even 4 sorties a day. Contemporary jet pilots don't even think about doing more than 2, if it involves any dogfighting. That's the effect of being in a faster, more demanding machine.

Likewise, riding a '50s bike is like walk in the park compared to today's bikes which can achieve immense acceleration and braking forces and can turn in excess of 1.2-1.3 g's.

In all, the sport is "from another world" regarding its global appeal, and therefore its level of competition compared to the 50's or 60's.

For all the above reasons, it is totally pointless and unfair to compare Rossi with Agostini. To me, Rossi is untouchable.

I wouldn't say 50's bikes were like a walk in the park, maybe accellerationwise but the vibrations were enormous, the brakes were cr*p and the handling probably as well. Combine that with road circuits with terrible surface and no room for error and you have a challenge of a different kind.
Rossi is brilliant in that he can ride demanding bikes in a very competitive field and change his ridingstyle to every new rule they throw at him. And that with an ever advancing age. I hope he keeps it up for a couple of years, the sport will be a lot poorer without him.

Go Vale!! :p :)
