MotoGP » Stoner 'has already decided to go', fears Ducati

As speculation over the MotoGP 2011 rider merry-go-round increasingly gathers pace, a well-informed Ducati Marlboro source concedes that 2007 world champion Casey Stoner 'has already decided' to switch to Repsol Honda next year

So far this season the story is less about Stoner and more about the Lorenzo/Rossi/Yamaha triangle. Stoner jumper sooner rather than later is a smart move.

To me the two Fiat Yam riders are locked in an early battle of inter-team supremacy with the bargaining power going to the victor. So far Lorenzo has the upper hand, no doubt he is keen to win as much as possible before negotiations begin in earnest. Lorenzo re-signing with Yamaha would almost certainly mean Rossi leaving to either Honda or Ducati. An alternative would be Lorenzo not getting the $$$ he wants and leaving Yamaha, and Rossi could name his price to Yamaha. Lots of drama to come in the next 3-5 races.

"We can only hope this comes true........him on the Honda will be a great combination....Ducati without him will be a disaster....that bike has always been one rider away from a disaster...."

Hah. I guess nobody but the person who mentioned his riding style of pushing the front remembers him on the LCR Honda. Granted it was a satellite team, but while he did show flashes of brilliance, it usually ended with him in the kitty litter. Looking at the stats on motogp.com, he failed to finish in 7 of the 17 races for one reason or another (41%!!). Going from memory, there were a lot of crashes for him that year.

Honda + Stoner = front end problems

if this is real that stoner had move out of ducati in favor of honda, then you could expect ducati hmm actually marlboro will do its best to lure rossi before going to lorenzo. marlboro will give rossi a blank check to swip him out of yamaha to have an ace of their team.. as for lorenzo we will see how sincere he is when he said he wanted to stay with yamaha rather taking a big pay check with ducati/marlboro.. here is the scenario if lorenzo continuesly beating rossi every race and actually end up WC this season, yamaha can kiss their a$$ gooD bye cuz rossi is moving to ducati to redeem himself as a superior rider than lorenzo and he can win a WC on another manufacturer...

@ damian
well who else would replace either one if one did go. pedrosa? stoner? or even edwards again. Fair enough he has not proved himself yet in motogp but i think the guy is talented look at yamaha in world superbikes.

After 1 ama title they gave NH a factory ride.....
3 ama and wsbk titles ........
Spies would probably be on a factory ride if not for the rookie rule.......

CS has a lot of baggage..... but he also has raw speed, We all saw him do a 1.34 flat on race tires....... Honda could be brilliant or (marco melandri).....

damian- Spies has won enough championship trophies that in and of itself makes him quaified to fill the seat of a Corse bike. He didn't do 250's for 5 years, but he's a Champion nonetheless. As for his two DNFs. His first was due to handling and he was absolutely right when he parked. Why chase whan you can't earn points? His second DNF could happen to anyone at anytime. Ask Casey. I've been at this armchair racing game for about 25yrs. In that time I predicted Mladin would fail on the world stage. I predicted Nicky's signing at Repsol. I predicted Spies rise to world status and to top it off I will make the boldest prediction yet- Elena Myers 16yo is an AMA supersport rider. WSS Champ 2014.

@ Kirk66 - AMA championships and 1 wsb champion in a lame field that could have gone either way between him and haga, does not automically make him worthy of a factory ride in moto gp. He has to prove him self as worthy of being in moto gp first, which as of yet, he is yet to do.

@ craig28101664 - de puniet would get my vote over spies if i had to choose between the two at this stage in the season. Although both will probably not be able to run with the top 3/4 just yet, de puniet is showing reasonable consistancy so far, with good solid results on that bike. Im looking forward to how the season pans out. Spies needs to show he can stay on the bike and show some consistancy first of all.
