Colin Edwards, Ben Spies, Cal Crutchlow, James Toseland... Who do you think should get a shot at joining Jorge Lorenzo?

Ben Spies will take Vale's spot until he returns no doubt about it. He's next in line in the Yamaha heirarchy and thats why he will be on the Fiat Yamaha at Assen.

Rookie rule does not apply here. Having to go get some washed up rider like Toseland would be a black eye to the sport.

"His results go up and down on the R1"

What and Toseland's don't? Come on, JT has had his shot on a MotoGP bike and couldn't cut it. Why not give the new kid a wildcard shot? Betcha he'd be faster than JT wherever he finished.

Is there anything that says Spies can't ride Rossi's bike if it's parked in the Monster Tech garage? Edwards hasn't looked that good this season and as good as
Spies is, he can't be expected to run the bike at the front this early in his rookie season even if he was allowed to. How about Kenny Jr? Gibbers? Bayless is under contract to Ducati. Test rider or no one I guess.
