Wait, was that rule about rookies put into effect after Kallio's stint at Marlboro Ducati? Or was he allowed to do that as a "wildcard"?

Because if there is such a loophole or anything, it'd be a worthwhile attempt to see what Spies can do under the stronger Yamaha development team and bike.

I sense a rule change coming. Doesn't look like they've thought through this "no rookie on a factory bike" rule. Are test riders considered rookies?

While I would like to see Spies on the Factory bike I think it's too complicated to make it happen (rules, sponsors, etc..)

Give Troy Bayliss a call.

Article says: 'the spare seat at Tech 3 Yamaha is tipped to fall to either James Toseland or Cal Crutchlow.'

Really? Tipped by who? Certainly nobody within Yamaha. Sounds to me like pure journalistic speculation to get a thread going.

This subject shows the really limited number of riders at the top level and impressing a rider with less than adequate skills probably is not worth it. A test rider will at least not prang the bike. Still hold out for up grading Spies bike with front line bits but without testing (not allowed) not a good idea either come to think of it. No way out!
