1.11.11 Riders who enter the Championship for the first time (Rookies) must be entered by a non factory team.

1.15.1.1 A “Rookie” is a rider nominated by a participating team for participation in the entire season, who has not participated in nine or more events in the same class in any previous season.
For the purpose of this clause, the 500cc class and the MotoGP class are considered to be the same.

The interpetation for a rookie is for example Ben Spies or Simoncelli starting out at a non-factory team. PRIOR to Tech 3 and San Carlo Gresini they did not compete in 9 or more events at/in Motogp.

Because they are nominated as rookie their obligations is for the ENTIRE 2010 SEASON.

"The rule was meant as an incentive for manufacturers to keep sat teams. So Spies cannot ride in the FIAT Yamaha box. But nothing can prevent Yamaha from drafting Edwards in, with his sat-spec M1, and to lend Rossi's works M1 to Spies in the Tech3 team."

Yes it was meant as an incentive to increase competition not to ruin it. Spies is the next in line and he deserves the ride. This is the normal course of action in any team and there's no reson to change it just because it is Rossi and Spies.

Edwards moves up to Fiat and continues to use his six engines. Takahashi stays in Moto2 where he competitive. Crutchlow stays in WSBK as he is doing well in points.

Yamaha hires Mat Mladin to fill in for Edwards spot on Tech3. Last time he and Spies were teammates they were a potent combination.

I would like to think that Dorna/Yamaha (mainly Yamaha's call) would put the fans first and get JT in on VR's bike for Silverstone. Sadly I don't think the fans will be put first, which it typical of MotoGP, so it looks liks just the 16 riders for Silverstone.

Beyond Silverstone I can only see CE to Fiat Yam with a.n.other to replace him at Tech 3.

@Diesel

Whatever you do don't take up law. Your grasp of rules and regulations is completely non-existant.

Spies cannot ride for the Factory team because of the Rookie rule. Don't you get it?

And as for Mat Mladin - you American fanbois just crack me up...

Dray,

I'm not sure what your point is but this is a situation that hasn't been faced in the series before. MotoGP can and should do whatever is in the best interest of the series.That interest lies with moving the sport forward. The no rookie rule is there only as a way to make riders earn there stipes before they get the royal treatment. Not to impede the natural progression of a riders career.

Your the clueless one for sure. Any rule that says you have to get a non rookie to fill in mid season for a factory team is just stupid and will be fixed. That is like saying the factory team has to get some washed up rider like Toseland. It would be a disgrace to bring him to the factory team. If he wants to he can take Spies bike at tech 3.
