MotoGP » 1000cc to open MotoGP door for Brits?

"If they limit the 1000cc electronics, Superbike will be a great path to MotoGP and we'll see some Brits back here" - Nicky Hayden.

part deux

The fact is that when HRC/Honda got fed up of Biaggi,he was told he would never ever race for Honda in GP-ever. Despite Pons having mucho camel money for Biaggi HRC refused to lease bikes for Biaggi...

In some ways it is not, of course, ALL about sales - as there are other "aspects" and in this case it was poltical as it was about image - more of a negative aspect . But there are "poltical" positives as well and Hayden fits a good political agenda rather than his (lack of) performance. Hayden was clearly not booted when others were with better results because of the politics of marketing. Hayden and co are good at that, likewise putting Ducati against the wall in 09.

@cletus

That's the thing - Hayden isn't a household name. Rossi isn't even a household name - he could walk down any street in America with his leathers on and name on the back and he MIGHT get recognized by 1 out of 100 people. Might. Beckham is FAR more famous over here than Hayden will ever be. And that's what makes kenlucky's argument ridiculous. Most of the people who ride bikes here don't keep up with MotoGP.

@kentucky

"but Rossi nor Hayden,nor barros nor biaggi are spanish- are they? You are contradicting yourself'

er, was it not in the quote you reposted that I said that either the sponosor wanted a certain nationality or they had to be good?

And you keep going on about how Nicky was on the very best bike adn this and that but neiter Barros or Biaggi could get it done could they?

And yes Melandri did very well on the satellite Honda. He beat the other factory Honda riders along with Nicky. Are you saying they got their ride because of their "marketing machine" too?

@The Kenlucky Kid

Who else has a factory ride based mostly on the assumption that they can sell bikes or have a good "marketing team"?

Lorenzo?
Rossi?
Pedrosa?
Dovi?
Casey?
Loris?
Bautista?

Funny how only Hayden is associated with this assumption.

Oh, and by the way Rawdog. You've got a f*cking nerve to wander on here and complain about abuse you've recieved and feeling that people are intolerant of your opinions.

If there's one thing you really seem to enjoy its being dismissive of what other people think and using colourful, abusive terms of address to drive how how little you think of both those opinions and the sources of it. "Asshole...Asshat..etc, etc." If you don't believe me, have a look around the site is littered with examples of you playing at alpha male.

If you want people to listen to you - listen. If you want people to be attentive - don't be dismissive. Think before you deal in badly informed generalisations.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't Aprilia, Derbi, Lambretta etc all race to sell scooters in Spain, Italy and other areas?

Can't be right as RawDawg says racing and sales have nothing in common. All motorsport should cease immediately as according to the messiah the father, son and holy Dawg its a futile pursuit.

Barros finished third, way ahead of Hayden who finished 8th.

Biaggi had his worse ever year in 05,starting off poorly and blaming everybody and went downhill from there and finishing to be the first ever rider to be banned from riding a factory honda or support. In the end, the conspiracy theory Biaggi conjured up was a self fullfilling prophesy. Needless to say this "strained" the team and affected biaggi's results would be a gross understatement. Biaggi's troubles were a godsend for Hayden.

Marco was on a SAT bike and factories are interested in helping the sat teams. Marco got the ride because he clearly earned it and did well. But what happened with marco on the duc..finished quite poor. However in 09 Hayden only beat in the standings 2 full time riders... and yet kept his seat. Barros finished third in 04 and yet was booted without a second chance,while Hayden finished 8th and only won one race at home track advantage.

Yes that is the thing. In europe Rossi is a household name (europe is a vast market) and in spain motorcycling is almost a national sport, at the weekend tracks are full of little kids learning to race. Life is fairly rural too, and everywhere you go in Spain, Italy etc the countries youth get about on small motorbikes or mopeds. There are thousands of them and a third of them have repsol rep paint jobs or similar. Thats how life is there, small, low powered bikes with good fuel economy to whizz around on...and they sell hundreds of thousands.

Central Europe isn't America. America isn't europe. They bare little comparison in bike sales or in Rossi celebrity.

oh, Cletus - I only attack those who attack me when I'm in the mood to retaliate. I don't rip into people first with any name calling. And as you can see on this thread YOU and others started with the name calling and insults. How about you take a review?

Anyway, I saw an interview with Ben on OTT and said how different it is for him in Italy compared to the States. In Italy he could be signing autographs down at the local pizza place. But in America it's totally different. He said his neighbors really don't know who he is expect the kid down the street with the nice car and nice house race bikes for a living. The don't know it's "Ben Spies" MotoGP rider - but just some guy who races.

No, never said only Hayden, but the list you put is laughable, because hardly stoner, rossi or pedrosa are there due to marketing but rather because they get results. In fact, you mention capi - italian and riding for years for ducati... yet was booted from ducati for poor results.
