Despite rumours placing him with a satellite team in 2011, Dovizioso secures a third full Repsol-sponsored factory-specification Honda alongside Pedrosa and Stoner.

It's been reported elsewhere that Pedrosa's shoulder is pretty bad and may be a long term injury.

So firstly Honda are probably just covering their bases. Secondly, can you ever imagine Dorna saying "no" to HRC!

This is not the first time.

Repsol Honda ran Itoh, Doohan and Criville once. And they also had a four man team with the above and Okada.
They even ran a four man team with Gibernau on the twin.

So it is not a new rule, not a new situation or whatever.

This is just like the old 500cc days with the 3 Repsol Hondas on the grid. I wonder if they will use one of the bikes to test radical changes like they did with the v-twin 500?

Honda ran some class guys on the 500cc twin - Okada & Sete were both 500cc / MotoGP runners up. And remember Takuma Aoki, who I think was the eldest of the Aoki clan, who was very very fast on the twin before being paralysed in a pre season crash in 1998.

Back in the day it was Honda galore in 500s. Repsol bikes would often lock out the poduim plus there were the likes of Kanemoto (with Biaggi and Kocinski), the Movistar Pons bikes of the likes of Barros, Checa & Puig, Noby Aokia raced that Elf Honda... no one else got a look in!
