MotoGP » Pressure increases on Australian GP date change

The Australian Grand Prix could be moved from Phillip Island, or scrapped altogether, if a solution to a proposed date change is not found.

Gotta be with DORNA on this, the heads at Philip Island must surely see the reasons for an earlier date, safety is paramount.

Im sure there are valid reasons for it being a problematic change, but they must be aware that they'll be better off with an earlier GP than none at all!

one of the best on the calendar, hope it gets sorted properly!

Earlier in the year for better/warmer weather? You know Australia is in the Southern hemisphere, yeah? That means unless you're talking about a lot earlier than than May, it's going to be COLDER....

WSB has the best date for this, just hope Carmelo is not trying to screw with that date...he's already tried to nick the 600's and now they are going back to 1,000's and it would surprise me if he tried to get priority over PI.

Lets be real, WSBK in late Feb, F1 in Mid late March, MotoGP in between. Who can get that much time off to see or volunteer for the events? As a volunteer Marshall they would loose me for 1 of the 3 and I love all 3. May be make the MotoGP last race of the year- let your hair down & have some fun

I think that's the point. Move it to the Aussie Autumn rather than Spring. Hence the dissent from PI owners - the 2 big bike races "crammed in" at one part of the year.

I'd say deal with it. Most of Europe has to have both championships within a month or 2. Both GP races in the USA are a month apart, and Miller Park WSB a couple of months previous.

Here's an idea: put PI on in March as the season opener - who wouldn't want that? Then move the Losail race to October. It might even be warm enough at night to justify running the night race.
