MotoGP » Pressure increases on Australian GP date change

The Australian Grand Prix could be moved from Phillip Island, or scrapped altogether, if a solution to a proposed date change is not found.

would be useful to see what the average monthly track temps are for P.I over a year, sounds like the big issue is keeping heat in the tyres, rain and wind happen elsewhere and are dealt with.

The MotoGP safety commission, led by Valentino Rossi, have also led calls for the race to be moved to a more suitable summer date.

Me thinks he can ride a bike but his geography is a bit lacking, anyway how would that fit in with the out of season testing ban.

Dorna appear to consider that a change in date will solve the problem. The weather world wide is un-predictable and there is no longer a time Dorna could rely on the weather 100%.

The most stable and predictable weather for Phillip Island is in mid Summer and mid winter (Climate change not prevailing at the time), between November and February for the Australian Summer or May to July for the Australian winter. Those are the only stable climatic openings.

Unfortunately if those openings are not suitable for Dorna then the only option is to move the GP 1200 Km to Eastern Creek in Sydney where weather is more stable at any time of the year. Eastern Creek was specifically designed for Motorcycle racing and with the already planned and budgeted upgrade, it would be very suitable.

Wow, the thought of Victoria sharing with NSW to keep the MotoGP in Australia, that would be special.

I like PI, but hate having to go through Victoria to get there.
Maybe they should move the Island to NSW, would be better for everyone:-)

Or just move the race to Eastern Creek which is 30 mins from where I live:-)

Again Rossi with his finger in the pie but have to agree, get rid of Phillip island with its crap weather,3rd world facilities, the isolation and cost to get there and the cops that would like to see motorcycling dead and buried in this country.

Move it to BATHUST!!! but then again Rossi wouldn't allow it as its too dangerous and a street curcuit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *****!

Doohan(GOD), conquered the mountain!!!
Edited for name calling.

Doohan at the mountain back in the day were he had a 76% sucess rate on the superbikes was very special!

Eastern creek would need a big upgrade but i hear Bathurst is extending the track into a GP/F1 type track in the near future.I can only hope and just imagine the attendance as its better located for most Aussies it would be a convention and not a gathering.

Bozz you are a *****. I've ridden to PI from Western NSW twice a year for the past 15 and camped trackside in a tent every time. The campground and the people in it are actually as much a highlight as the racing as they are enthusiasts. To all those whingeing about PI weather, facilities etc, harden the f### up or stay home!

The track/promoters, etc. are looking at it the wrong way 'round. They shouldn't fear crowding WSBK and MotoGP--host WSBK and MotoGP races on consecutive weekends. Pull huge crowds with the opportunity to take a single week-long vacation/holiday and see both races. Easy enough to fill Mon-Wed with other (club) races, rider/team PR events, and/or other motorcycle related events. Like the hugely popular "Bike Week" at Daytona, only bookended/anchored by world-class racing. It would be an irresistible draw.

So Carmelo -- it rains at P.I. does it?? and never rains at Indy, Spain, Germay or any of the other venues??? P.I. is a place where the weather can change -- however when Melandri won the 1/2 wet race was the only time that weather has been a factor -- Yes it does get cold there so rug up and turn the tyre warmers up a few degrees!!

Build a track in Sydney or fix up eastern creek. Melbourne gets F1 (well maybe not for long) and Sydney should get motogp. oh yeh and brisvegas can have boat races. hehe
