MotoGP » Moto2: MZ to start season with two chassis

Max Neukirchner will run an MZ-prepared FTR at the start of the Moto2 World Championship season following delays in getting parts for the manufacturer's own chassis.

That is so strange. I'm wondering what bike they use for the Spanish Championship. Why don't they put West on the FTR? He knows all the tracks and he has already a year Moto2 under his belt.
I'm wondering where the problems are. They teamed up with ProRide and should have more resources, but it looks worse than ever. Waldmann jumped the boat already last year. Sorry for Max and Anthony, but I don't see them up there where MZ is seeing them...

Strange and sad for West (again) who gets the so far slow MZ chassis presumably because he hasn't brought money with him to leverage an alternative.
I have read that the FTR chassis they are getting is also not the upgraded 2011 version.

They have West on the MZ chassis because they want to sell it as a street bike later in the year with a racing pedigree. You can't develop something if no one is using it for the purpose you intend...

Also, If I were them I wouldn't note Karel Abrahams victory at Valencia as a reason to select a chassis, since his victory was wholly based on one of the biggest flukes in GP history...

But...who would buy a MZ if the results are as a bad as they were last year or the test results that I have seen this year? How does their second rider being on someone elses totally different alloy chassis help the marketing cause, particularly if he is beating the MZ MZ? Are "the delays in getting parts" the true reason for not running a second trellis frames bike. It isn't added up for me and unless there has been a huge inprovement in the MZ chassis West will be the loser.

Neukirchner and his people requested the FTR, according to another article. His sponsors support helps the teams overall effort. I'm sure they would rather him be on a MZ chassis.

Day 1 of testing has Neukirchner at 13th (but 2.2 off the pace) and West at 26th with 1.5 seconds between them.
There must be envious look from one side of the garage to the other.
