“When I noticed the tool hadn't been removed I tried to do it myself because it was right in there next to my brake lever” – Ben Spies.

Oh my god! Is this true?! The one who did it should be sacked immediately. So far the season is no sensation for Ben and this would be the last thing he needed. Mr Meregalli, please do not allow incompetent laymen touch his bike again!!!

Spies is taking a lot of flak right now, but this was clearly a mechanical/machine issue, which you could tell from his actions during the race.

Putting the bad luck aside though, the greater problem seems to be how to bridge that performance gap to Lorenzo, who he isn't really threatening yet.

Just like last year it'd be foolish to write him off so early, but he does look like he still needs to find something to consistently run with the top guys.

Pure bad luck, but that aside he must dig deeper to find the pace he needs. MotoGP is not a talent-show, but gladiator's arena. Elbowz is a World Champion material, no doubt about it, but sometimes it looks like he's not mentally "in" 110%...like he needs to be.
He could be more aggressive like he was in AMA and SBK (against Mladin, Haga, Biaggi and Co), and more focused in opening laps which are crucial. He's got nothing to moan about...he has experience, WC winning bike...and a sloppy mechanics. Elbowz time? Bring it on already!

Even without that human error problem, i guess he cannot run with Rossi, Dovi, even with Edward. I think he can only run with Aoyama, Cruthlow at max. He just don't have the speed to run with third group (DP-JL, CS, AD-VR, CE).

Sheer carelessness by the technician who left that tool in place.I bet he got chewed out big time and is feeling pretty bad right now but sack him? come off it,it was a human error.A costly one but there you go.Got to be frustrating as hell for Ben right now,the start he has had to the season has not been what he was hoping for.Hope things pick up for him soon.
