MotoGP » Cal Crutchlow turns heads at Estoril test

"If I'd had this set-up for the race I'm sure I could have had a battle with Colin, and he was sixth, so that's really encouraging" - Cal Crutchlow.

Good job from both the Tech3 boys to post times amongst those of the factory riders yesterday.

Crutchlow in particular was seriously impressive, quick in each session and getting progressively more rapid as the day went on. Rookies are still starved of precious track time, and this shows that when CC builds up some more experience with setup, and gets to tracks he knows, he's got the speed to push towards the front.

Wow! Just 0.6 seconds. That just 16.8 seconds! Wow!
So if Cal kept up his fastest testing lap for a full 28 laps he'd come......6th! Oh wait. Edwards came 6th in the race .... but then Cal couldn't keep up that pace in over the full race, so he'd actually come 8th.....wait, that is where he came in the race.

I'd better not turn my head.....

Testing, practice and qualifying are one thing. Racing each other for 28 laps is quite another, as we have seen on sunday. However, his speed on this test has been pretty impressive. He should be able to keep up with Colin in Le Mans...

Well, fan or not, you cant argue with that. Lets hope he doesnt do a Spies and run before he can walk. if he takes it tep by step and Cal should do ok in moto gp.

Looks like a good test for him. but lets hope he can do the test and qualifying laps in the races. he has always been better at one lap times than race times. he just needs to be consistant and fast in the races. it's as if he winds the key up and then lets it go for one lap, but i would like to see if that time was consistant throughout the test. that is why people like Lorenzo are world champions because they grind it out lap after lap !! not just for one or two. but all that said it's looking really encouraging for him

I'm really impressed with Cal so far. Very down to earth bloke who is under no illusions of what he's up against. Great to see him improving and nice to have a fellow Brit in the paddock.

Don't understand people who feel the need to put him down though? Why don't you have a go at racing at this level?? No... didn't think so :p
