Shuggiemac, really, this is about as news worthy as am eastenders plot. Plus I don't understand how she would get more coverage on an american car than I bike that tours the world.

The race livery is totally different, but I guess your comment and your call sign shows your age (maybe not physical but definitely mental).

I don't personally follow Paris Hilton in any of her exploits, but celebrity sponsorship and attendance at MotoGP events does nothing but good, it gains a wider audience and interest in the series, which is positive for everyone, because a sport that does not grow its fanbase eventually disappears.

Just try typing NASCAR into twitter and see pages of results appear before you, then type in MotoGP and you hardly have to scroll. MotoGP may be an international series, but without proper advertising it does not have huge international appeal outside of certain countries.

I wonder what type of person, if any, would watch gp cause of paris' involvement. I wonder if spice girls fans will be watching f1 next weekend cause ginger was on the grid last week, both an unwelcome distraction.

Skidmarks - you are totally missing the point, unsurprisingly. In this stupid world of celebrity, wherever she goes, cameras go and more exposure is shown around the world and then other sponsors see the potential. Motogp is a business and if you can't grasp the financial aspects of that then fine but in that case why comment?

Besides which you have not yet given a single reason why she should not sponsor a motorcycle team. There was no furore where Seedorf put his name and money to a team and he is just a football player - hardly life saving occupation either. Look at this way, in a climate where the current world champions team in Moto GP can not attract a main line sponsor, then we as followers should welcome any and all support that is put into the sport.
As I said in my first response - yours was the first of the expected cynical barbs that you can not back up with any reasoned argument as to why her involvement is a bad thing.

Well when Paris tweeted that her rider had won the Le Mans race, over 80 people retweeted it. I have never seen any MotoGP journalist or rider retweeted like that. Simple thing is, as stated by others, we live in a celebrity culture and if new fans join the ranks, that is good. I don't recall there being a test that allows you to call yourself a MotoGP fan, but some fans certainly seem to think there is.

@acidraine - very well put.

As much as I can't stand the celebrity culture I also say credit where it is due but some people are just unwilling to give someone they don't like a chance. Paris Hilton could fund a hospital for sick kids and still the cynics would find a negative out of it. I guess it just shows what kind of personality they have. As for the *****ic comment about the gay thing - well if ever there was an argument for making intelligence tests to allow people to air their views public, then that is it.
