"I was just happy to stay up on the bike, it was incredibly cold and I was so nervous as in these conditions it's so easy to crash!" – Casey Stoner.

@ What a gift - wait till 2014 or something when Casey is on his 10th season. Then start comparing . Nobody stupid would fall off for comparisons base on written resume's. We watch races. Call it as we see it. Either my eyes are deceiving me or Rossi just lose it. He is no where. NOWHERE! His best results were on the wet this year remember. When everyone in front of him came crashing down. Being gifted a few good mid places (5th at best lol). Now nobody is there to take out Stoner look at that freakin' gap.

What i want to know is how you can be "gifted" a win when you are already in the lead??????????
Stoner was miles infront of Lorenzo when he lobbed it ffs!!
Some people on here just crack me up with the crap they come out with.I have never seen anyone gifted a 15 second victory!

Hally, whether you're prepared to admit or not, the most boring Motogp season in living memory was 07, when Stoner won the championship. Not that that takes anything away from Stoner, mind you. But everybody agrees that 07, from the point of view of racing fans, was soporific. Agreement is so unanimous about how boring 800cc racing is that they are ditching the spec in favour of 1000cc engines next season. If you think of any exciting race from the first four 800cc seasons, Rossi was the main reason why the race was exciting. That is undeniable. The ones that stand out are Catalunya 07, Laguna Seca 08, Catalunya 09 and Motegi 10. Now Stoner looks to be as unbeatable on the Honda this year as Rossi was on the Honda in 02 and 03. Hats off to Stoner. If the races get boring again, it won't be fair to blame Stoner, but it will be fair to point out that it's because Rossi is not in the game this season.

Rossi's best result this year was 3rd at Le Mans on a dry track! He came home 4th at Catalunya in exactly the same amount of time it took Casey to come home 3rd on the bike last year. So, one way of looking at it is that after only 4 races he was going as fast on the bike as Casey was going after 3 full seasons on it.
I don't think people should be dissing either Stoner or Rossi. At the moment, Stoner is riding the Honda better than anyone and he has only had 5 races on it. That is to his credit. Mick Doohan reckons that because he rode the Ducati to the limit so much, riding the Honda to the limit is well within his comfort zone. Nevertheless, it's way too early to say either that Rossi's career is over or that Stoner is a better rider than him. The only way to compare riders is to look at what they have achieved in the same amount of years in a category. In his first 5 years in the top class Stoner got 43 podiums, 23 of which were wins. In Rossi's first 5 years in the top c

In Rossi's first five years in the top class he amassed 64 podiums, 42 of which were wins. Comparing career progressions, Rossi has been a far more successful rider than Stoner, unsurprisingly, I guess, seeing as there hasn't been anybody as successful as him since Agostini hung up his leathers. Why would anybody be rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of Rossi's demise?

Great win by Stoner, no doubt about it. I think rossi's optimism has now evaporated and another lap or two at that speed and Stoner would have lapped him.It is plainly not all down to the bike otherwise Haydon would be in the same boat. Ducati should beware because if they cannot get this bike to handle it will feed down to thier street bike sales and spell commercial disaster. For the sake of Moto gp they have to sort it out otherwise I can see them withdrawing which will leave us with tiny fields and few spectators!

PaulBCN - gifted 3rd. Like a gifted 1st place for Lorezo when bowling ball took out Stoner in Jerez. Like another bowling ball took out Pedrosa and that bowling ball was given a ride thru. Rossi's best "tops" in this year were all gifted. (Gifted in a way everyone in front of him are crashing). Very very lucky man. Unlucky on his bike yet still able to stand/sit on it. Yet embarrassingly enough, He's being a pussy riding that abominable thing. And his riding it with color PINK - PINK equals PUSSY.

My point is, Rossi is being gifted with points! Good on paper but looking at the race. Either Rookie's or past prime riders are falling off while Rossi is crusing. Catalunya was his best, but that only occured since Sideshow bob made a d1ck move or whatnot how you see it. Then Lorenzo coming wide. Either way Dovi owned Rossi. Period.

powerismo - unfortunately all motorsport is about more than the ability of riders & drivers to perform, it is to entertain the huge fan base, I do not wish to take anything away from Casey's ability to ride, he takes a bike by the horns and makes it work as we saw with the Ducati, it was great to watch but he needs to endear himself to the fans as well and I'm sorry to say he fails badly in that department. Sport needs characters to add to the show. I don't have any particular favorite rider I am just a huge fan of bike racing but MotoGP is losing out to WSB & BSB in a big way and I doubt it will be any better in 2012.
