If they don't work out faster than superbikes then its the most pointless bunch ever.
If you want a cheaper way to fill the grid, have a lottery with every spectator that turns up on their stock 1000cc bike with leathers, helmet and boots.

I think this wasn't a bad time. They are early in the development, by March, they can improve by 3-4 sec. Also, they will be last in QPs, but the difference will smaller in races, after all, they can use plenty of fuel, while MotoGP can't.

If only Aprillia and Kawazaki came back as factory team. Even BMW as a full factory team would be nice!
Come on Dorna please do something to attract some new Factory teams back to MotoGP Grid!

@ ferret

This is what I was hoping and holding my breath for.
The final incarnation of the zx-rr was actually looking proper before they pulled out. And wit Aprilia's current success with the rsv-4?

Waiting to google one morning and to my shocked surprise find Kawasaki re joining MotoGP. Even if it were only in 2013.

@ re: engine

Agreed. WSBK would definitely beat that time. Though it's hard to judge 'cos they don't run this track.
The concerning thing is that they've been testing this bike since last year, and the other guys haven't done a thing yet as far as I know. How far behind will THEY be?

Could it be that they reckon the BMW motor has enough power with basic tweaks to test the chassis, and are possibly not running a full spec motor as of yet? Possibly focusing on chassis, balance with the 1000cc etc?

Just a theory. WHT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Six seconds a lap slower sounds dangerous and a recipe for a bad accident. And this is against the 800cc bikes. How much more slower when the factories roll out the 1000cc?

And all the "DISAGREE" button lovers?

Who would NOT want more factory teams? Honestly, does anyone really think the CRT teams would do any better? I don't remember Kawasaki ever being that far off the pace, hell, even the CUBE wasn't that slow.

Would love to get opinions on WHY you guys disagree.

I think Aprilia use Mugello as a test circuit with Alex Hoffman as development rider. From what I remember from recent tests (when Ducati were testing their new SBK) Hoffmans times was almost certainly faster than the Marc VDS time.....

Simo did a 1.54 on the RSV4 at Mugello at a test before his SBK wildcard and that was way back in the RSV4 development, it would certainly be better developed now...
