Can't agree with Doohan for the following reasons-
a) Stoner is already in his 6th year in the top class b)The likes of Marquez, Smith etc are going to inject some stiff competition into MTGP c) If Lorenzo joins Honda (don't rule it out if Yamaha can't improve the bike)Stoner will have his hands full d)How long will Stoner's health hold out?

For sure by 2013 Doohan will change his statement about Stoner when Marc Marquez steps in to Motogp class.
All the praise would go to him.

Stoner is gr8 talent but as a entertainer ,he score 2 on 10.
vale On the Other side is 10 on 10 .A complete package. The Real GOAT....

Marc Marquez will beat Stoner when he comes across. Stoner is good but you have to start winning the MotoGP championship from at least your second year in there if you hope to beat Rossi's records. Marquez is young enough and has more race wins than Rossi in the MotoGP Series before turning 19 already ... he's on form already so it's possible :)

@ Lance
Stoner did win the moto gp title in his second year.

Stoner's brilliant and when he wins this title in many ways he will surpass Doohan having won on two makes of bike. I still maintain that Rossi's the best I've ever seen but Casey MIGHT catch him. Mind you I think from early indications suggest Lorenzo could well be the man to beat next year.

yes, Doohan was 25 years old when he won his first gp, but those were different times. This Stoners and Lorenzos of today have been travelling round the world and winning races since they were 15 or 16 years old. They've been almost ten years on top of the sport by now. So i wouldn't be surprised if they are not competitive even before reaching the thirties...

Wow, some of the comments cracks me up...so far the "mental fragileness so maximum 3 world titles" is the best of all. :) I have to say I do not agree with Stoner sometimes, cause he is too much of a straight shooter and sometimes he really seems to be trying to alienate his fans. I hope it is only the sudden fame and hell get over it. Anyhow, if there is one thing why I like him, its that hes not a clown and he gives his all in it. I dont need kiss-kiss-waving-I-love-you-soooo-much-look into the camera, nor idiotic post-race celebrations and I-am-so-funny special ego-edition helmets. I need exciting races with tough racers, with a lot of overtakes...and yes, Stoners wins on the Honda are sometimes pretty boring, but to be on-topic: What do you want him to do? Slow down? :)

I doubt he'll beat Rossi's, the only Rossi record i can see him beating is his pole record and maybe his win record in the premier class but that'll be about it, he has a lot of catching up to do and Rossi is still racing and he'll win more races so i don't think and can't see him beating a lot of Rossi's records, he could beat his premier class wins but i doubt it, the one he'll beat and the only one i think he'll beat it Rossi's pole record and maybe fastest laps too. The Doohan records he will beat he's less than 25 wins behind Doohan in the premier class wins so he'll beat that in two, three maybe four seasons time

The only person i can think of who could possibly beat doohans record is marquez when he moves to the premier class.
Stoner is good at getting fastest laps and pole positions as one poster mentioned earlier and he is running away with it this year on what seems to be the best bike on the grid, but next year may prove to be a little closer in overall performance between the manufacturers.

the things is, does stoner still racing atleast 5 years from now
he once said(when he still with ducati)that he wont be racing motogp too long, he'd prefer spend time more with his family
before with repsol honda there's a rumors that he's about to retire soon
so maybe racing isnt the kind of lifes he wants to
