MotoGP » Dovizioso set to join Tech 3 Yamaha

The Italian is believed to have turned down an offer from Honda to ride with LCR after Marco Simoncelli was given the same deal with Gresini.

@1motion

Thing is, all I said was "not a tough move by Dovi if Honda didn't want him, gonna be tough to get another factory seat, blah, blah, blah" nothing more than anyone else and the same as others and post was removed.

I'm glad Dovi is going to be on a Yamaha next season - it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

I didn't notice any mention of Laverty - he was in the running for the Tech 3 job but only if Dovi didn't take it. Dovi apparently wanted half a million Euro so I'm guessing that Yamaha (or maybe Dorna) are footing the bill for his wages, because I am sure Tech 3 don't have that sort of money spare.

Presumably laverty will now sign for BMW Italia WSB team.

Simoncelli has that special something alright.The ability to throw himself into the kitty litter and take other riders with him!
He will never win a world championship at this level in a million years.Far too inconsistant.One podium in 2 years.He will always be an also ran.Wait till the end of next season.He will be out of a job unless he starts hitting that podium at regular intervals.

@ Sick Cylinder

I think Eugene has been out of the running for a little while, since he was never made a firm offer, unlike Dovi and Bautista, I guess if both of those two had declined then Laverty might have come back into the frame, but in a recent BBC interview with Herve, he didn't give the impression EL was still a strong contender.

Like you, I'm curious as to how Tech 3 have been able to afford Dovi.

Dovi never had a chance in factory Honda squad. Good thing he left Repsol. Remember the results he got in his first year in MotoGP. Then it became worse - in factory team?! How is that possible? Something prevented him to go faster. He will be fast next year. As for Simo and Dani, they are the real Hondas boys. Stoner is not. Remember another thing. Honda - Stoner broke up in 2006, and what happened 2007? I was really suprised when they re-hired him. Dovi will be fast again. Enough said.

it seams Lucio Checchinello offered Dovi "FULL factory support" on the LCR for 2012 with honda as recognisson of his performance this season. without the contractual obligations invoked (over the obvious political preferences)to secure dovi his 2011 factory repsol ride, he was never going to keep the repsol status in the wake of stoner signing... so it would seem Dovi wasnt discarded but was regarded worthy of ffsupport . Which of course raises the probabillity that their may just be a factory tech3 yamaha on the grid in 2012 !! otherwise wouldnt he have signed for LCR !! and would yamaha waste the development potential of a highly motivated ex factory rider on a full satellite bike.?

cont.... In the first year of developing a new bike!! seems more than plausable dovi has secured ffsuport for the whole season from yamaha and it would be prudent of yamaha by way of extra data, development and stronger challenge to honda ,not to mention motivation for current factory riders.. and dovi dont forget , is still an improving rider ..

Dovi may not win races but look at his position,consistency can also win championships especially in bike racing !Cal will be o.k. about Dovi at Tech 3,why not?Hopefully bike change will give them both the chance to compete .
