"We just lacked a little bit of steam going to the line. That's the way it goes" - Ben Spies.

I love the comments that Stoner couldn't get into the top three on the Ducati last year. Talk about one eyed, twisters of facts.

If you want to bag someone at least TRY to get the facts right - otherwise you just look like fools.

I won't even begin to raise the point as to where Rossi was running all season in comparison (damn, I just did).

Stoner said "by the end of last year" the bike was capable of winning - which he proved. It finished 2nd in Stoner's hands last race and won 3 (I think races), which was the bike Rossi immediately took straight to the back of the grid a day later - but don't let the facts get in the way of your vitriole.

" Quoting top speeds shows an alarming lack of understanding of motogp for one interested enough to comment. The bikes are at top speed or about 3 or 4 secs of a near 2 minute lap, they spend at least half the lap accelerating.. " **** van Mender

@**** van Mender.
If you have a look at the results on the official MotoGP website, you'll see the Analysis page with Top Speed. So if it shows a lack of understanding, why, oh why do the officials publish the Tops Speeds so extensively?

Must be important then I'd expect.

Because as this forum demonstrates many people are stupid or have never ridden a motorcycle or both. Equally it is very difficult to guage the relative levels of acceleration, except possibly visually as to my mind the back straight did showing how Spies lost bike lengths to Dovi and Pedro while they felt comfortable canning it. It got wet they backed off the acceleration advantage was lost coz they chose not to use it and Ben rode with more guts.

Stoner had three wins and 5 DNFs (all self inflicted). Rossi came equal sixth jumping on the Duc cold, so two positions behind Stoner. Yes Stoner won and Rossi hasn't but I would alert you to the first sentence. It is all about what you deem a greater indicator most wins or most WC. Alot of people feel that Stoner had a performance advantage in 2007 and when that was lost he was nowhere near contention. Equally he comes from beign perennially fourth to walking 2011. The fact is as I have said before and I would concede that some of Rossi's have come this way too, is that one of the best riders on the best bike is like to win the WC. Best bike 2007 and 2011 WC, WC. 2008-10 other bikes level or better 2,4,4. One thing I would say about the Yam that in terms of power performance/acceleration the Yam has always carried a deficit to the Honda. This year all things aligned for Honday, Stoner was the best by far of the Honda riders.

Have we already forgotten how poor the RCV was in the early 800 era from 2007 to 2009? It got better with pneumatics, chassis evolutions, and a switch to ohlins from showa.

It's been said a million times: Whatever slight motor advantage the Honda has over the Yamaha is balanced by the M1's superior handling.

It just comes down to Stoner and his magnificent team being a cut above the rest when setting up a machine. It's all on paper!

The combination of 2 Stone or 28lbs or 12.7kilos weight difference, mixed with Honda power and a $1,000,000 gear box stole the race from Ben and Yamaha.

Any of us could have won that drag race to the line.

Spies hit the wet paint twice on corner exit, as opposed to stoner who didn't hit it at all. I wouldn't be surprised if that caused Spies' TC to kick on and off, limiting HP to his back tire. Combine that with a slight acceleration advantage that the Honda has and that would explain it.
