MotoGP » Will aluminium frame be Ducati's silver bullet?

"The positives of this bike are certainly the engine, which I like, and the fact that it handles a bit better than the previous one" – Valentino Rossi.

Some facts - "The L shaped engine restricts weight on the front wheel" Yes, this was an issue on the 990's and the reason Bridgestone developed the super soft front tyre for Ducati. Pre-Bridgestone, Troy Bayliss claimed he had 5 kilos of lead ballest around the steering head to get some "feel" from the front tyre.

"Why didn't Ducati go to an aluminium frame years ago?"
According to Stoner they compared an Alloy frame and the C.F. frame and Stoner said there was almost no difference between the two, BUT both the frames had the swing arm pivoting on the engine

@RawDawg: Of course nobody got "vindicated" by Simoncelli's death -for a start noone blamed anyone for not wanting to take too many risks.

Beyond that, however, what justifies the refusal to take unnecessary risks riding a motorcycle better than the death of a co-competitor?

Simoncelli's death is a tragedy to the whole world of motorcycle racing -and beyond- but let's not stay at a "leave this out of everything" status, reality has to be evaluated and juxtaposed with people's mindsets and practices, it's the only way to better the perspective.

The point is that Ducati will have to build a bike similar to the Japs in order to beat them, regardless of the rider.
In the absence of a stoner or a rider that will make the difference, its there only option

Head in the same direction

have read the article, and what they are doing is what I said, they are going in the direction of Honda and Yamaha, now the chassi is out they will develop it and then maybe the L will become a V to help with weight distribution.
I doubt there's anything that I could add to the Ducati debate that they hasn't already talked about 10 times over

Talk to much and as for a genius, well its more repeating what everyone else has said in a different way.

I suppose if they only wanted to see if the front was better they could.
But I suspect they would like to know how it handles power wise as well, Aprilia would be similar but not a perfect match
And as a hole package there is only one way in the end to go
Its only 1.5 seconds behind, would be hard to see consistant results that way
