Apologies I forgot Lawson..........a great Rider plus numerous others that have made up the championships over the years with out the money to compete on top level Machinery .......... Yes top Riders are paid a lot these days Yet the risks are high (simo super sic)
If you love racing how can you not enjoy Stoner's slides Pedrosa's amazing feats on some circuits Lorenso ...Rossi at Welcom in 2004 etc etc Plus al the others efforts on less than top equipment Love watching them For those who say it is boring you should look at the margines in the old days some times they won by laps minutes etc you realise how long 10sec's is or even 2 seconds the skill to be 2 seconds in front is amazing The skill to ride the Ducati at the front amazing.......

In my opinion it seems that this CRT stuff is the wave of the future..cheaper and if factories like Aprilia are warming to the idea then it may be a good thing. They need not be directly involved to receive development ideas and directional feedback for development from racers and not testers. I am sure Forward Racing will be pushing some info to BMW to improve their engines as well, this is a benefit to the CR Team as well as the provider of parts i.e. BMW, Aprilia, etc..maybe suzuki and eventually the rest will follow suit. Larger grids, fast and equal machinery, mostly prototype with higher level of tuning than SBK. Keeping in mind that WSBK may very well follow BSB with the EVO concept to reduce cost... therfore Moto1 would be faster machinery with less restrictions.

i think CRT rule is just a stop-gap measure, to pressure those factories in order to have them eventually leasing a full-spec motogp engine to those privateers.

i can safely say that Dorna is making a very wise move this time. i also, have longed for motoGP to follow F1 where many chassis and engine specialists competing, not just full factory effort.

Perhaps its backwards foward thinking.More rider ability / skill than twist and go boring.Lets face it who can afford a RSV4 or Ducati 1199 to put on the road. Thanks you race guys for all the R&D youve put into my road bike but I cant afford the price tag with added traction control, plus the speed limit on my road is 30 miles and hour. Oh did I forget to mention the weight ive saved with that gromit gizmo thing.Just an **** about tit way for Dorna make bikes standard and say it was there idea. Factories have lost the plot with Motogp. Fine race each other to see whos the best, but your biggest costs are Dorna who alllow you to go racing in the first place. Something not quiet right here?

CRT is finally beginning to make sense.
Aprilia's cost per engine will decrease every time they get another customer (satellite) team. To the point where the engine may still cost more than the claim amount, but losing 4 engines per year is just the price to pay for development benefits distributed among the other satellite teams. Not much different from their 125/250 lease model, but with a new "claim" tax.
The rules will change every year until CRT is as competitive as a factory bike, which will encourage all manufacturers to switch to the CRT model. Engines will converge/evolve to a single design like the 125/250 did. For the teams & fans, the cost of entry is cheaper, bikes remain competitive across manufacturers, and the grid grows larger.
The concern is that the Japanese 4 may retaliate by withdrawing from the Aprilia cup and concentrate on making superbikes faster and more exciting than CRT. history repeats itself. ...But wait, doesn't the same company own both series now?

Great idea! This certainly helps MGP boost numbers.

BUT to boost competitiveness the rider aid electronics like traction control need to be ditched ASAP. This won't sit well with Dorna because it won't help the Iberian fleas.

But what a spectacle it would be for the fans

CRT still can't save the MotoGP sport. As long as only MSMA member allow to claim the engine, it does not working. MSMA engines should be allowed to be claimed too by any team in the same class. If there has more than one team want to claim the preferred engine, do a lottery and the lucky winner will get to claim the engine.

It's fair all around that way and the engine cost remain lower with a clever innovation to gain better performances.

This solution also could be applied if they want to make a whole bike can be claimed too. Let say a 150K for a complete bike. So, the development cost of the bike prototype has to be around 100K or lower to be beneficial and manufacture can't gain the control through the price. If factory development cost more than that, they had to sell the technology via their street product 1st before let it go at lost cost in the claiming rule event.

The possible upside of this for the consumer is that the manufacturers will be more likely to develop more lethal road-going machinery than we already have. The downside (one anyway) is that without the factories pushing the development envelope what happens to the trickle down road-bikes have enjoyed for decades. Inverted forks, Radial brakes, traction control etc. all owe there origins to Racing. You could argue that the development will still take place in the lesser classes, but without the factory level of engineering resources it will surely take longer. If it happens at all.

What some are not understanding is that engine technology is pretty well understood across the board. There isn't a super secret development in any of them. Sure Honda and Ducati have a seamless shift transmission. That's not the engine though. When it comes to internal combustion, all of them run on the same principle. Aprilia already did all the R&D for WSBK. It's not like they're going to have to do a whole bunch more unless the RSV engines suddenly start exploding mid race.

The money and R&D is in engine management. IE, traction control, power delivery, throttle connection ETC. That's not the engine and therefore cannot be claimed by the factory teams. The engine may cost roughly the $20K claiming cost, it's the stuff to make it run and be competitive that's expensive. It's also not in the rules to be claimed. Motec, or Marelli are both being used by a number of teams in WSBK. I'd say it's a short jump to MotoGP from there.

pierobon CRT with Desmo16 RR engine 81mm bore
yoshimura CRT , suzuki engine obv
moriwaki CRT with standard clutch VFR1200 turned to 81mm 1000
bimota CRT aprilia RSV engine
harris CRT yzf r1 engine

i really like the idea, give them even more fuel, make the traction control / electronics less
