Pretty sobering when looking through the 'lows' to consider the toll of injuries this year:

Abraham: severe concussion
Barbera: broken collarbone, concussion
Bautista: broken thigh
Crutchlow: broken collarbone, fingertip ground away
De Puniet : back injuries
Edwards: broken collarbone, dislocated shoulder
Hayden: broken wrist
Hopkins: badly broken hand
Lorenzo: severed finger
Pedrosa: broken collarbone
Simoncelli: RIP
Spies: cracked ribs, concussion

I really hope the new Bridgestones help reduce cold tyre crashes and make things safer for the riders in 2012. It's been pretty depressing to see so many get hurt and have to sit out rounds through injury this year.

The best of course Simoncelli, because he's at the highest podium, way above. The second would be Ben Spies, with his consistency. Third would be (yawn) Stoner, ok, this guy maybe good (i can't believe i said this), but his boringness is a minus point. Pedrosa and Rossi not so lucky this year.

The revelation of the year and the beat rider in my opinion was by far Marco Simoncelli. This year he stepped up his game and produced the best racing and before his tragic accident was straying to show a real threat to the top 4. RIP Marco my vote goes to him.

As much as the tragedy of the lost of Simoncelli is in our thoughts, he wasn't the rider of the year.

The rider of the year was Stoner. Like it or not, he was far better than any other rider.

@maxi fan
"Marco was head and shoulders above the rest in Motogp this year"

You see this doesnt make any sense. How could he be? He got one podium. His death was awful and heartbreaking but should the crash not have happened would you still be classing him as being a better rider than Stoner? Or Lorenzo? Or Pedrosa?

No is the correct answer.
