I find it funny how people are thinking ok the era of the 800s is over and are welcoming the 1000's like its going to magically reset every ones skill level.

Uhmmm what the first race of the year : QATAR

Who will up on the top step?

@ A choo. Rossi's no1 sneeze
Having reviewed my posts I fail to see where I have slagged off stoner, perhaps you want to stop your nose from running, the grey matter is escaping.
And I'm a fan of the sport not of 1 particular rider but that might be a bit hard to understand for a stoner fanboy.

Well its pretty obvious that Stoner is rider of the year of course. He is a step above the rest, with Lorenzo being a close second to him. With Stoner dominating this year, and seeing Rossi struggle and lose his alien status on the bike that Stoner consistency won races on, i think its pretty clear that Stoner is head and shoulders above the rest, and yes that includes Rossi too. Rossi obviously now knows this and his ego has taken a bashing.

Just imagine if Stoner would have been on a yamaha or honda for the 4 years he was on the ducati. He would have certainly had at least a couple more championships under his belt.

@ realfan

I said you were slagging of Stoner's achievements because you said "for the second time he has managed to win a hard fought battle on what is by far the best bike in the championship".

A cheap shot that is not supported by the data. The best non-Stoner Ducati came in 7th in 2007 (just like this year), so how on Earth does that equate as by far the best bike? The screamer was fast, but the Ducati's problem has always been around corners. Ask Rossi.

Also, you say that Lorenzo "was without a doubt the rider of the season to put up such a fight against the might of HRC".

I've got no problem with that opinion, but given that Lorenzo managed 3 wins and 10 podiums this year, was Casey your rider of 2010 since he managed 3 wins and 9 podiums (and that field included a strong Rossi) on THAT Ducati?

So you don't like Stoner ... no problem. But you can drop the facade of objectivity because it's obviously nonsense and the call to stop slagging off is hypocritical.

@ah choo...

agree with you mate. If stoner had the best bike in 2007 then where is capirex in the standing? with one lucky win in motegi. If your taking stoner out in the equation this year then lorenzo win his second championship, so where's the other 3 factory honda? and first time in the bike with 10 wins, 12 poles and 7 podiums total of 17 poduims. Respect to mr 27.

The only different Stoner win the title this time, Honda had a bunch of best riders which is always in the corner to take championship points from him. That makes it hard to win a title on the 2011 Honda.

While Yamaha is very loudly to shout that they're the best bike by holding off the rest of the Hondas on the 2nd spot. You could tell by the result, Stoner had to be stronger than the top Yamaha to win the title because if Stoner not win any race, it will be won by the Yamaha. I guess, that was the real picture how to strive to win the title against the Yamaha.

@ ah choo..
I'm not knocking his achievements merely stating facts and as for backing up claims with data.... have a look at most of the races from 2007 and you'll see that he just used the sheer speed to blast past his rivals (even I can go fast in a straight line) but like I said I'm not knocking him, I can only praise him for using the bike that was given to him to the best of his ability.

"I'm not knocking his achievements merely stating facts and as for backing up claims with data"

Well, this seems to be an issue since Stoner was the only one getting the results on the bike. You've conviently ignored any other rider on a Ducati.

"he just used the sheer speed to blast past his rivals (even I can go fast in a straight line)"

If that isn't dumbing down Stoner's ability then I don't know what is! Again, where were the other Ducatis? The earlier you get down the power the faster you go on the straight. Stoner does that better than anyone else - backed up by his team mates. He made the bike look good when it wasn't. The data, when taking into account other Ducatis, suggests exactly that.
