RIP Marco and had he survived the season he would have been top 5 or 6 but the question is who was the rider of the year. Easy of course, whether you like him or not

Casey Stoner

Jorge Lorenzo
Dovisioso (V consistent)
Pedrosa
Spies
Simoncelli
Bautista

Settle down boys.

Simo had a good end of season but let's not forget the mistakes he made in the beginning, didn't finish many laps let alone races.

Rossi had a dog of a season on the Ducati - although he did seem to be making it look a lot harder to ride than Hayden who I think had a pretty solid year.

Stoner - love him or loathe him - he was consistent (no silly fall offs on the warm up lap this year...) and he was fast. Quite a lot faster than his team mates.

Think my stand out riders are De Puniet and Bautista. They may not have clocked up a lot of points but good racing from them and I feel they got everything and a little more out their bikes

Yeah good post TGB, you have the flavour of the competition. The answer is in the question. "Vote for your Motogp rider of the year" Not the riders who got the most points, not the riders on the best machinery, not the riders who worked the oracle to team orders etc. Therfore I stick with my previous thoughts it was Marco, but respect all opinions.

Rider of the year is a tough one, Spies or Simoncelli for doing so well on bikes designed for midgets, Abraham for proving all the doubters wrong, Rdp outstanding towards end of season or Lorenzo for puting up a great fight when his bike was out gunned. Stoner was undoubtedly the best honda rider of the season but Lorenzo was without a doubt the rider of the season to put up such a fight against the might of HRC who were obviously determined not to miss out on at least 1 title in the 800cc era.
