Don-R, a very comprehensive list of injuries but you left out the most significant injury of 2011. Not sure whether it occurred at the end of season test in 2010 or early during 2011 but can you please add to the list:

Valentino Rossi - pulled heart muscle

If he was serious he would have thrown his ego out the window and ridden the Ducati the way it needed to be riden ... "win it or bin it".

Really do not agree to include MS in this, do you want us to comment on his riding in the season of his passing?
We all loved his free spirited attitude and pace, but the reality is he crashed far too often, and for me not in the top 5 for the season (racers have to finish races to be worthy of analysis), maybe next year he would have reached some maturity and stopped crashing to go with the agressive pace, we will never know.
But the best rider last year was clearly Casey, Dani might have given him a bit of a run if he had started fit (which he did not), and stay injury free (which of course he did not).
I think the Honda is probably the best racing motorcycle ever built to this point, the complete package, Casey had been over the limit of his bike with the Ducati, the honda was easy after that.
So, Stoner, Lorenzo, Dani,

This is not a good year to ask who was ouststanding! Apart from the obvious tragedy,it has been a difficult year for lots of other reasons and I don't think we have seen any real competative racing. As Casey Stoner won, then you have to say him, but it is a fairly hollow honour under the circumstances. What I need to see to enable me to say such and such was fantastic is good close races, with plenty of battles, but what we have been subject to lately is nothing like that, it is boring and processional! To me, "He Who Dares, Wins!"

@McLarenP
I must say I am a little surprised that you and some of the more devoted fans of the beloved one did not put him up for rider of the year, however on second thought you would all be laughed off this site.
The first post said it all.

God knows what will happen if Casey Stoner has a sh-t time next year!!! Wonder where all his so called "die-hard" fans will be then?? At least all of us Valentino fans never change our tune no matter what!

What you have to understand Mclaren is that the majority of stoners fans are kids, and being kids are easy peasey to rub up. Factor that into there posts when you read them next and all becomes clear.
The first post by motogpfan is a classic example.
The fact that rossi has podiumed, including wins, 139 times in the premier class and 175 times in all classes is beyond the comprehension of stoner fans because they've only been watching motogp this season.
Stoner has no history, therefore his fans have no history either.
Stoner got lucky this season and was gifted his world championship when lorenzo threw in the towel.
The kid factor will also come into play when stoner starts hissy fitting and throwing his toys out the HRC pram when he comes under the slightest bit of pressure.
We've seen it before from him and we'll see it again.
Now watch the s... hit the stoner fan !

@LCTanner

I thought the topic was "Motogp Rider of the Year". Please explain in detail what your post has to do with the topic? Clearly, someone mature enough would capable of such a thing. If you can't stay on topic then there's an obsessed fan's Rossi love rant called "What's the story? Rossi and Ducati". A much better place for your post.
