MotoGP » Casey Stoner drives V8 Supercar

"I didn't expect to be in Craig's actual race car. To be behind the wheel of something that won a race a few weeks ago is very special and I appreciate it" - Casey Stoner.

It would be great to see him in the series after he retired from the bikes. If he does, he needs a good car straight away. Troy Bayliss raced a couple of times for a very low ranked team and seems to have lost interest. Wayne Gardner raced in the Japanese GT series for a few years and entered his own Coca Cola backed team in the V8's. He did very well apart from earning the nickname 'Captain Chaos' due to some over eager passing manouvers. He eventually drove for the top team, The Holden Dealer Team, so he was quite good at it. No reason Casey could not be as good in touring cars.

@Jack:
It may seem strange that MotoGP riders love racing cars as well. However, once you realize that their testing is limited (less so now, but still) and they're pretty restricted in what tracks they're allowed to race on even with non-GP bikes, it becomes pretty obvious. The only way for these guys to have this kind of fun outside of the MotoGP weekends, is to try out different machinery that gives that similar rush of racing.

Personally, I enjoy seeing confirmed time and again that a racer is a racer, regardless of what he's in or on. Rossi is fast on bikes and in rally cars, Stoner loves his V8, and I can't think of any GP rider who would say no to motocross or karting.

Racing is racing!

@WTalent - - What evet "it" is, is definitely in the eye of the beholder. Interesing comment on V8 Supercars. And I was thinking this past years championship had to be one of the most exciting seasons in my 7 year memory and the most exciting 4-wheel racing series. It's funny how perception rules completely.

Casey comments on CRTs in MotoGP (from Crash.net, Dec 2nd)
“I think if we kill prototypes then we may as well be racing touring cars, It's no different to this. It'll definitely take everything out of the racing for me,” Eurosport.com quoted the Australian as saying.

The Repsol Honda rider went on to add “I don't know if I'd want to be a part of it.”

Could Casey be exploring V8 race options closer to home?
