MotoGP » Rossi and Ducati: A season in stats

A lot has been written about Valentino Rossi's disappointing first season with Ducati in MotoGP this year, but it all boils down to the following stats...

What surprised me last year was that each time they seemed to make some kind of progress they changed everything again for the next race. One step forward and two steps back, and the stats show exactly that !

I really hope they get everything sorted out for next year ! We need some fighting at the front !

So what do the stats tell you, the more he modified the bike the more he went backwards ,was a winning bike with you know who on it but with Mr Rossi very ordinary.

Not so bad when all things considered, I am so dissapointed for VR and the whole team . Let Jeremy Burgess make the decisions on bike build as no one person knows what makes Valentino Rossi fast !

Truly a sad season, watching him do so bad.
Really hope Ducati have planned and mnufactured 100 different solutions to sort stuff out.
I would like them to try the following:

Carbon fibre frame without engine as stressed member.
This might be interesting.

options they should explore
65 deg twins
Screamer engine

I wonder how Nicky's stats looked by comparison. Bet they were pretty close. Apparantly, nobody but Casey can ride that red beast. Can't believe how Rossi made almost no improvement as the season went on. That damn Ducati is becoming career suicide for even the very best riders

This year was a real come down for Rossi and Burgess.I think they and the fans figured that Rossi was going to get on the Ducati and give the field a riding lesson.Instead they recieved a lesson in humility.People say Stoner only wins on the best bike.Well i think that it was proved this year that applies to Rossi more than Stoner.Put him on a difficult bike to ride and he looks quite ordinary. He and Burgess quickly realised just how good Stoner was on that bike.Everything they tried with it seemed to backfire on them and it was painful to watch at times. Will we see a different story next year?
Watch this space.

What those starts show is that Rossi was slowly closing the gap then changed the bike, this was because the yhad no idea what was wrong with the bike. Next year can't be anywhere near as bad as this year... surely!!!
