Stats for the 2011 MotoGP, Moto2 and 125cc seasons...

Scientists are trying to overcome this problem of falls, by trying to create a new vehicle with 4 wheels.

Scientists think they will call it AUTOMOBILE.

Another silly statistic trying to create a debate.

Motobikes are getting faster, and to me that is the sole reason, because they are better than they have ever been.

Funny how in F1 automobile racing they use terms taken from bikes, such as 'dropping' the car, or having a 'tank slapper' to try and inject a bit of excitement and sense of danger into their sport.

This author has not normalized his data for his population when quoting the figures between season.

The premise of the entire article is based on a flawed interpretation of the raw data.

He needs to divide the number crashes by the total number of man hours ( or kilometers which ever has the best coefficient of variation) riden for each season.

total man hours riden = total track time of all riders in all classes in all sessions for each round

Util this is done one can not make any conclusion about the frequency of crashes between seasons.

This is the same issue which politician and police have with road fatalities, they should quote them based on the per kilometer travelled by the nation not annual total.

Stats can not be bent, they are either right, wrong or the interpreted incorrectly. if interpreted incorrectly it is due to the ignorance of the author or audience, mostly the later the as the author wants to mislead the the audience (as you said in your post) to persuade the audience to their, the authors, preconceived opinion.

@ basic. Is there really that much difference in track time that you need to break it down into hours rather than just events. Really? The story mentions a different number of races n each year. I don't think this is meant to be a PhD!

the headline of this article sounds like the tagline for a hollywood blockbuster...

it's actually pretty clever with nice solid data backing it up. timely (more or less) given the recent spate of fatalities. don't think i've seen data like this compiled on our sport... EVER...?
