There was an article written recently (can't recall where) about Ben Spies' last Yoshimura Suzuki Superbike as the “last of the pure Superbikes”. In that Article it said (if I remember correctly) that bike made somewhere around 240hp. That was before the DMG stepped in and neutered them and tried to kill AMA Superbikes completely. One would have to believe that given free rein to get Titanium innards, Pneumatic Valves and modern electronics that a modern equivalent would be capable of somewhere north of 250hp fairly reliably?

@Cadwell, re:Someone more intimate with the regulations than I feel free to chime in here. But don't they all still have to qualify within 107% of the Pole to make the race?

yes and no. yes 107%, no, you can use warmup time if it is faster

@Joeski, re: The more I think about this CRT thing, the more I think it will work, as long as there are no behind the curtain disguised full factory prototype machines. Honda could enter a honda prototype chassis with a MGP (CRT) factory tuned PRODUCTION honda engine (based on the CRT regulations).

so would Yamaha, Kawi and Suzuki. The ones who screwed are Duc as they don't have production 4cyl to race. Of cause they could use G12 engine, but then they would be willing to sell it for 20,000euro

re: "Obviously Honda's decision to run the number 1".

after the money they spent on not just 2011...? but the past 4 seasons...? you'd better believe it. i wouldn't be surprised if his compliance was highlighted in BOLD in stoner's contract. HRC boffins aren't going to have they're technical achievments be diminished and devalued all over again - like what happened with the V5 "shock and awe" campaign and rossi. no, not after dropping that kind of loot.

It is good to see this much competition attempting to make the grade. If they can, swell. If they are backmarkers, then the race is on. I would wager that the CRT's are going to be somewhat of a force. Perhaps not every race, but in there in one sense or the other. Stoner, show us. Dovisioso, get better. Val, c'mon bro, make it happen. Hayden, put the shoe down. Pedrosa, well...lets just see.
