@@@ no defence win.
I never heard Federer ,Nadal Borg Sampras, Brazil(soccer),Dohan, Rossi,Agostini,Schumacher and more, come out with a comment like that as defending champs.
That s why they are called defending champions(even if what he said is tech. correct).

@@Daniela ,Stoner is an outstanding rider but he really know how to say the improper thing, what do you think.

@@@ no defence win.
its probably a better attitude to start the season by only looking to win the next race and working towards it without thinking i have to win it to defend my title.
mental conditioning is a large part of bike racing , focusing on only what matters most is a good way to achieve a goal.
his words are clear that he has his mind in the right time frame to start the season , what he did last year is done and accomplished and best left to dwell on in retirement.
the only way to defend a title is to win the next one , and to do that you can only think of the next race.

Stoner makes perfect sense. What did he say that was improper in this interview? The truth is, is that some of you will ride his jock for anything he says. It has gotten old & tired. He is the reigning champion. He was BOSS last year he deserves more respect. He's got mine.

@ DB8

Maybe bitter was the wrong word, BUT, in your first post you said that by that point you'd read nothing negative... DID YOU ONLY read MY comment then? As almost all the comments above that were negative... (Oh, Casey Moaner... Stoner moaning again... bla bla bla ad nauseum!!!)

The thing is, people cling to the most pathetic arguments to try and put him down. AND FOR WHAT?!?! He's a great talent, as is JL, Ben Spies, DP, and yes, even Rossi! But why must people (Rossi supporters in particular, sadly enough) put him down when all he's doing is answering an interviewer's questions???

Peace

I agree with most everything you say,I have said it many times on here the problem with rossi and his fans is they have no respect for any rider or their fans on the grid. It is not just stoner and his fans, remember JL and his fans in 2009 it was the same then probably worse, it's anybody that looks like beating rossi straight away their fans are treated like sh*t to me they are not real GP fans. I am a stoner fan but I like all riders because without them we have no GP racing, but with rossi fans they think there is only one rider on the grid, and I feel sorry for them because when he is getting beat they cannot enjoy the sport only when he is winning it's really sad.

Nick I thought a reasonable interview. I think his fans over state his open manner etc but still a good interview. The things I would take away from what he is saying is that when the bike is not operating well even Stoner struggles like anyone would in the same situation. His words not mine.

Why stoner fans alway try to put down rossi achivement and his title. Stoner just win only two championship and rossi win 9 championship. There is no comparison between them and why stoner always moan about rossi? if he moan about rossi then how can rossi fans like and apriciate stoner achivement. Stoner must have to respect rossi first. Rossi is a goat not just by word he is truly a legend. I start watching motogp in 2003 just because of rossi. he was and is fantastic. THere is not doubt that rossi can beat stoner if the bike sorted out there is a hope but let see what happen so good luck to rossi and all motogp rider for new season
