Your wrong with that statement....Troy Bayliss won the last race of 2006 ( Valencia )in a 1 off guest ride for the DUCATI MARLBORO TEAM

We need more bikes and we need a better show but Dorna need to think of the whole picture and not just costs!
IMHO, having one bike is not the way to go - for everybody concerned, teams, riders fans and sponsors.
Teams will have more than enough spares to build a second bike, but if a rider crashes, maybe through no fault of his own (e.g. Moto2 Malaysia 2011), he will lose valuable set-up time thus running the risk of not being competitive = more processional race
Fans - session times have already been reduced and if a rider crashes they they will get to see even less of the riders they paid money to see.....and I do not see entrance prices being reduced
Sponsors - if a rider crashes there is less exposure for my brand and if it is in warm up and the bike cannot be prepared in time for the race I would be seriously pissed off and look to take my money somewhere else
So Dorna, rather than the usual blinkered view, think of the the fans & paying public. F1 can do it so if you can't then

I agree that the one bike rule is a stupid idea which doesn't reduce costs - it simply means a lot more work for mechanics who have to rush to transfer an allocated engine into a new chassis if the rider trashes his 'one and only' bike. In the 'one bike' Moto2 class, Marc Marquez apparently had 3 full Suter rolling chassis ready and waiting in his motorised workshop.

The one bike rule is a complete dud of an idea! So what happens if a rider crashes in morning warm up and the bike has significant damage and it can't be repaired in time to race? That'll really make the fans happy...not!

The 1 bike rule saves no money, most of the WSB paddock are saying this. Motogp tried it before in about 96 and it didn't work.
A lot of what is said in this piece is tosh, the writers idea no more than that.

Teams to be allowed to spend what they like, as it always has been, MV, Gilera, Norton, etc. The richest team wins, as it always has been. But the factories must produce a minimum of 25 bikes of a similar spec to the works bike and sell them with a spares kit at a price of no more than 250,000K each. Classes must conform to the world championships in all domestic championship races, therefore bringing riders through national championships to MGP level, ensuring a full grid. Reinstate national championships in these classes, so it means something to be British champion again. Dorna put 70% of the TV income back into the sport a grass level ensuring a healthy pool of young riders for all countries. Don't be greedy, spread the money around the younger riders starting out on a career.
