"We made our fastest lap when the tyre had dropped off with almost race distance on it"

This is what I expect from Spies - to be strong during the race when the tire goes off.

*fingers crossed*

Same set of tires all session. Fastest lap at the end with already race distance on the buns! Thats pretty impressive. Ill be rooting for spies to challenge the Aliens this year. Lets hope as the times drop over the next few days he can keep pace. If so, I think we will be in for an exciting first race.

Early days, but absolutely awesome first session. Track is garbage right now so I would expect at least a second to fall off those times by tomorrow. Regardless, his ability on worn tires will serve him well this season. And he was fast from the off in this first session.

Times are about to start dropping, as wacko mentioned. Today's fat times will be no threat on Sunday. Or tomorrow. Until then, the best crew will have to demonstrate their worth.
I hope the Ducati tech crew have a revelation tonight and come out with competitor for wins. They have to improve at least at the same rate as the others.
My boy spies has something for this weekend, I think. I'll be cheering for Nicky too

With the rapid wear rate on the new Bridgestones, qualifying times may be less of an indicator of final race position than last year. It's going to be who can keep their pace up on worn tyres and how much the handling of the respective bikes suffers in response. Spies is happy on worn tyres and the Yamaha seems happier on spent rubber than the Honda, so I guess he's looking in good shape.

Lorenzo is looking as effortlessly quick as ever though.

It seems to me that casey is riding the hell out of that machine to be in the top of the Fp1 timesheet.. While the factory yamahas are taking it a bit easy.. Lorenzo is looking strong.. So is Ben.. Bt nothing will b quite certain until qualifying.. IMO Ben has equal chance to win the opener along with jorge and casey..
