re: "does this means rossi will stop at the end of the year and drive for audi in DTM next year."

more like audi's latest crown jewel, the new R18 diesel hybrid in lemans.

re: "I'm thinking that Ducati may have been in a bit of financial trouble and that if Audi didn't buy them there mightn't have been any motogp team in the future."

no, the sale of ducati is but the culmination of a multi-year business plan. CASH is king... inv-ind don't/didn't give a ratz about racing, motorbikes, or any of the crap we consumers think is important. it's good job then that VW does.

This can be nothing but positive for Ducati and what is more as others have pointed out, the Germans are good business managers. Taking Lambo as a point one issue that was starting to affect sales was building quality and reliability, Audi have forced Lambo to address this and assisted as the Germans are synonymous with build quality. But they use a slightly detuned V10 from Lambo for the R10. However, it is not beyond the pail that they bin MotoGp as simply bad business sense, but Rossi promoting Audi well...I threw that last one in for Bandit.

re: "this is an interesting buy and makes you wonder if they may branch off their own line of motorcycles in the future??"

you don't need to do something so economically foolish when you own...

(wait for it)

re: "Small and independent no more, toast a great company that is now but a brand in a portfolio."

no, that's what they were in the hands of ind-inv. but if i were a brand and had to choose who's umbrella i wanted to be under...? VW would be at the top of a very short list. who wouldn't want to claim the technical marvel that is the veyron as a cousin...?

re: "Just hope they can do the same with ducati as they did with Lambo. Itallian madness with German sensiblity."

actually, there's not much that needs to be done that inv-ind didn't already take care of. under their watch, they updated their manufacturing, cut the dead weight and revamped the entire line, and diversified their electric suppliers away from just magnetti marelli. that's right AWAY from magnetti marelli to include german seimens and now japanese mitsubishi.

Vw group out sells Honda by 2 to 1 (2010).

VW was in 2010 number 3, Honda number 7 (in sales).

Honda is no longer the biggest in motoGP. Now will Ducati have the funds to buy back the top 3 programers and the best engineers? 2013 could be very interesting.

Ducati is now the biggest in motoGP. Why? Because it's parent company has more muscle than Honda and Yamaha combined. And no funding restrictions can take that away!

If Ducati keeps Rossi things could get interesting in the future.
