MotoGP » Rossi to become third member of 200 club

This Sunday at Jerez should see Valentino Rossi become only the third person in motorcycle grand prix history to clock 200 premier-class starts.

Congrats to Rossi,, darn shame that he threw away his chances of ever winning again when he left Yamaha. I would have really liked to see him do well for another year. 95% his fault because he himself decided and 5% motogps fault for letting the cost of a competitive bike become so outrageous that we have now only 4 bikes capable of winning.

More important to me is hopefully Checa will get 6 more wild card invites, because he deserves to be in that club.

"What he has done though is attract a whole following of uneducated non-racers and probably non-motorcycle riders."

That is an unsubstantiated assessment and an uneducated generalisation.
However, I will agree that Rossi's character and popularity have attracted legions of enthusiasts of all intellectual levels, from Ozzie to Genius, and many ex and non and prospective and new and experienced riders and racers on many continents.
There's nothing wrong with that.

Rossi has been in GPs for 17 year and won 9 Championships,

Stoner has been in GPs for 12 Years and won 2 Championships

Stoner is not going to have enough years left to catch Rossi

Barros, exactly like Capirossi was "A-" rider. Very competitive but not in the league of Doohan or Rossi.

Jack have you seen the last 4 for races of the 2002 season? Barros jumped on the 4 strokes and got MORE points than Rossi did in those races. So I'd say that Barros was very much in the same league as Rossi. It's just he was never on the right bike at the right time. Hell, I even remember Barros on a satellite Ducati beating Stoner once at Mugello.
