"Maybe we will let Shakey have a run out on the bike and rest James for a meeting" - Paul Bird.

James was on the old chassis, the one that no-one could get on with, Checa had the newer one. I remember all Ellisons website getting up a petition and bombarding Herve Poncheral for the same frame as Carlos, Ellison told his fans to back off as it was causing him embarrassment and problems in the team.

yeah Paul Bird has done great things for the sport and whether your a fan or not you cant deny the great opportunities he gives the brits where we prob wouldnt normally get them!

BUT he shows no class whatsoever in what he did, at least inform the lad that this is the plan and not broadcast it on national tv first, he was basically saying ellison is making it all up and he isnt up to it! its his team so making management decisions is his choice have no problems with that but at least do it in a professional and dignified way

Apparently this move is prompted by Aprilia who dont recognise their bike is giving Ellison chatter.

They have suggested thatByrne (who they regard highly)gets an outing on the bike to confirm or deny what Ellisons is finding

it has to be at a race meeting as Byrne is not a test rider for the teamand wont get tyres to test the bike in a private test

Seems a bit stupid to me hire a past failed Moto gp rider dump him then replace him with another failed MotoGP rider ever herd of trying something new and I Dont mean hiring Ron Haslam

It makes absolute sense to run Shakey as he knows the team, especially Phil Borley, so they will understand Shakey's feedback, whereas with a new rider, you need to develop the relationship.

I happen to like Paul Bird based on the investment he has made in racing over the last decade and the opportunities he gives to riders, however, in this case, he ideally should have kept his thoughts private. It may be that they can't afford to run two bikes at the next round, so this is the only way to get race feedback. A neater way would have been a private chat with ellison and a phantom training injury for the Le Mans round. Good luck tho, as we need teams out there and lets hope they don't quit.

well, look what I ran across this moring - quotes from Bird after Qatar stating he would replace Ellison dated April 12th (www.biscuittinmedia.com/hello-james-ellison-goodbye/) . As I said earlier, I don't buy for a second Aprilia can request who rides the bike as Bird is a paying customer and they have no right to request anything.

One race in and Bird was already talking about Ellison having a limited amount of time to prove himself and move up the timing sheets or he would be moving on. Ellison has another two rounds, according to Bird. "He came to us saying he was a MotoGP rider, that he really wanted to ride the bike. He worked with Mick (Shanley) his crew chief before, they understand each other and get on, but James has to pick it up. I could put Shakey (Shane Byrne) on that same bike tomorrow and you know we would get better results," said Bird with characteristic bluntness. "He's got Jerez and Estoril to pick things up."

James has ridden for me as a team owner, for a number of years when he was younger. He is definately one of the most tallented riders in this country.anyone would be unable to compete at world class level on an untried machine that he has only tested on one occasion and actually raced three times. I am not going down the road of condeming the bike, a brand new, untried and untessted machine. I would agree that it would do no harm for someone else to put their **** on it, but I feel it would be better done with James in attendance at a propper test day. However good luck Shakey, I hope you can work together with James on this.
