@ffs you are a rather sad excuse for a motorcycle enthusiast, those kind of personal comments have no place on this site.

What have old stats got to do with anything ? Agostini has some good stats but they are not going to drag him out of retirement, are they ? Chris was good in his day but hasnt ridden for ages and therefore not best suited for this job albeit on a slow lumbering bike. They might just as well use someone from superstock. The results will be pretty much the same anyway.
Its possible they just want Chris for set up advice in which case there is some reasoning behind it. Good luck anyway.

Some stats to shut up the people who think they know better than the owners of a MotoGP team.

MotoGP he had 68 starts, 1 win (the only one ona Suzuki in the 4 stroke era), 7 Podiums, 3 Poles and 1 fastest lap.

He is substituting for Edwards who has no wins in his MotoGP career despite his 157 races! So Vermy can be regarded as at least equal to Edwards when it comes to MotoGP skill.

Now compare his WSBK stats to Haslam.

45 starts, 10 wins, 23 podiums, 3 poles and 7 fastest laps. Haslam has had more than twice as many starts, 116, for less than 1/3rd the wins, 3, a single pole and only 3 fastest laps.

Throw in the fact he has won a World Championship and has MotoGP experience, why the hell would they select the lesser performing Haslam?
