@Monster: That's exactly the problem with Stoner. He doesn't "get" that MotoGP IS promotion! That's the whole point for factory's of racing. And considering that Ducati is a much smaller company than the big Japanese it is a miracle they keep being such a nuisance to them.

I have to agree with Casey on this one. Of course, Motogp is about promotion. Especially the promotion of a commanding performance on the Motogp race track on Sunday afternoon! That is the winningest promotion of all. It is worthless staging all manner of gimmicks and stunts on the streets or shopping malls yet end up dawdling mid-pack race after race 30 seconds behind the winner and managing only a desultory podium in 12 months because it happened to rain. As a Rossi (not necessarily Ducati) supporter, I would care less if Ducati/Rossi did zero stunts or other personality junkets of this kind and instead delivered a real winning performance in the races. That is where it all really counts.

You are absolutely right: nothing beats a win on sunday. But all this goofing around really is a big deal marketing wise. Just like the Wrooom event they annualy host with Ferrari.
Ferrari's F1 team is the one making the most money, despite of very few wins. They make most of there money via merchandising. Just like Rossi doensn't make the most by what Ducati is paying him, but by all those people buying hats and t-shirts.
I agree with you (and I guess a lot of knowledgeable MotoGP fans too) that these games are a little childish and mean nothing from a sporting view, but is is important for Ducati.

What are you seriously trying to say that Ducati aren't able to develop their bike AND hold a few days of fun!? I'm sure it isn't going to take that many resources to hold this event ! Fair play to them motorbikes are supposed to be fun after all..
