Shows how far Cal has come that it was dissappointing that he couldn't pass an obviously struggling Casey. Need Honda to sort the RCV. Bit embarrassing that a private yam is more competitive.

I think Cal's lack of experience at this level is showing a little. He needs to improve his starts and his pace over the first few laps so he doesn't spend a race trying to make up ground and pass other riders. He seems unsure when to press an advantage too, and perhaps he needs to be a little more determined with his overtakes.

That's the downside. On the upside, he's still learning and improving and is looking more and more comfortable running with the likes of Stoner and Pedrosa, whose tailpipes he never got a sniff of last year. Silverstone will be a good track to really put everything together and begin to build his case for a factory seat somewhere next year.

I agree Don-R! Cals starts have let him down when he has been on the front row. Today included. If he can get a decent start in a race from a deent grid position, he can certainly grapple with the bigboys. Good luck for Silverstone in 2 weeks!! :D

Cal has always been a major talent. A few years ago, he was talented but an arrogant cocky little sheet.

Since he has moved to GP, he's made great progress and in 2012 has showed his talent to the fullest. What a great rider he is...

But, Cal, you have many fans and at Silverstone we'll all be cheering for you. Just please don't let that arrogant cocky personality remerge. There are strains of it lately as you are doing better than expected. You are doing great, but even if it takes a lot of effort, try and be humble, even if you have to act it (like many in the MotoGP world). 'Cos if you get cocky, they will be on you like a ton of bricks if you have a bad weekend.

Good luck in 2012.

Whilst I agree with most comments here, we must also recognise that the 2012 M1 is actually quite the superior beast to last years 800. It's not just a case of the 1000 suiting him but it suits pretty much everyone that rides it. By Silverstone, however, the factory bikes should be one full step ahead in development and not just the 'odds and ends' that are evident now...we'll see if his latent talent, and knowledge of Silverstone, can make up for tech3's then 'slight' disadvantage..Let's just see if Jorge waltz's off into the sunset.. it'll be interesting as Dovi's comparative performance will be a good indicator also...

“I couldn't do anything else to get by him" simply because you already max out your talent! That's how close you will get to the front on the real battle like this one. And in the end you blame the tires for not able to fight for the podium with dovi. You weren't even have a shot from the beginning to fight dovi let alone for podium. Just like dovi says on the interview yesterday that Cal will have no pace at the end of the race. Which what shown today when he was drop by stoner and dovi on the closing stage.
