@Don-R
Thank you for again an interesting answer.
Just found this on the internet(visordown) about a possible return from Rossi to Yamaha. It seems that Jarvis wants to keep all the riders of this year??:

Jarvis added his thoughts: “If he doesn't stay at Ducati, perhaps at the moment now we have Lorenzo, maybe Honda is the more logical place, because I think they have a need to compete against us next year, and compete with Lorenzo.

“So I want to see first what HRC will do...whether they will fill the spot as we think they will probably with Dani and Marquez, now that the rookie rule is cancelled."

But he closed saying, “You can't rule Rossi out of being on a Yamaha in one of the teams. But our priorities are as I say looking at Ben, Andrea and Crutchlow, but anything could finally happen. Until each three spots are filled, anything could happen.”

FFS - support Ben loyally and with passion - but don't make excuses for him that don't hold water and make yourselves look like blind idiots.
And it's a very childish reaction to slag all 'Brits' (& CC) as a knee-jerk simply because Ben got beat by Dovi.
Ben isn't beating the other Yams and running close to JL, and hasn't put the bike on the box, let alone the top step. And that is what he is expected to do with that ride.
Both CS & CC pushed too hard to get by and suffered mishaps. BS himself said he was on the edge and could run with but not get past Dovi without going over the edge. But more is expected of BS than of Dovi and CC as he is on the Factory bike. End of.

With one of only four competitive factory bikes in the series this year Ben should be placing top four regularly. Sure it's too much to expect him to do so every race, everybody has their bad races.

He should be no worse than fourth in the championship, he's tenth. He doesn't have a single valid excuse for that as far as I can see. New bike? That goes for the whole field. New tyres? Ditto.

He has finished behind at least one satellite bike in every race so far and we are almost at the half way point.

Those who excuse him by saying that he's improving are missing the point. He's a factory rider in his second year. He should be challenging Lorenzo, Stoner and Pedrosa and no doubt his salary is commensurate with that expected performance. If Yamaha sign him for next year they are idiots. Much as I like Cal I have to say that Yamaha should sign Dovi. Cal hasn't yet proved he's capable of regular podiums. As for Spies. For my money he doesn't deserve anything better than a CRT next yea

I like Ben's down-to-earth manner (though he's hardly 'Mr Charisma' with that monotone voice & lack of expression). BS gets on with his business without being a drama queen (a few of his fans could learn from that and chill out maybe?). I also think he still has a good chance to keep his seat. But its harsh, competitive world at MotoGP & always has been. E.g. I remember thinking how hard done-by Scott Russell was to lose his seat on the Suzuki RG500 (not a well-thought of bike at all) at the end of 1996, after finishing the season 6th & getting on the podium on a lousy bike. 6th in his 2nd season (1st full season) and yet SR got canned. You have to think Ben Spies does have big problems if he's on a top 4 bike and not finishing top 4 in races and the series - whatever any of us might feel about it.

Spot on Don-R

Valentino was begest treat for Bens seat but now it looks he will stay at Ducati. So Cal on Duke

CC told BBC Sport: "We're in deep discussions with Ducati because at the moment there's nothing for me at Yamaha. I can stay at Tech 3 but not on a factory machine. You won't win a title if you're not on a factory machine."

and Dovi will stay in Tech3 team.

cal will, or should take the ducati offer(for different reasons).back to the yamaha, jarvis was quite vocal and bullish some time ago, that yamaha did not need, nor want rossi, and when honda started to court lorenzo, the patter changed to ,he would be welcome back to the yamaha family(as i said months ago)hes done more back peddling than a circus clown on a unicycle, rossi says he has not contacted honda(why disbelieve him),he will unlikely stay at ducati,(tho there is a very slim chance of that, if it improves dramaticly)so that leaves yamaha, and beleive me, jarvis will have no say on this, rossis yamaha contacts are way above jarvis pay grade, with a sponsor in tow, rossi will have a yamaha, and that leaves spies vunerable as to what bike he gets,or does not get nxt year, this IS the way it is

@ spur I dare say that's a fair point too. I can't say I'd be sorry to see and end to all of the juvenile 'my dad is better than your dad' type of school playground stuff. All support their preferred rider or fellow countryman by all means, but that doesn't mean suspending your own rational thought & common sense, & being blinded to reality. Right now that means for Ben & his possible competition for the Yam factory ride (IMO):
BS - under-achieving
VR - under-achieving terribly (development & results)
NH - probably 'as expected' (VR meant to be better)
AD - Expected to do well, and is proving so.
CC - Not expected to be near Dovi, so doing v well, but not enough to be getting a factory Yam in 2013.

Ben Spies just told MCN that he is hopeful a
" new Yamaha contract will be finalised "
before or at his home race in Laguna Seca

He certainly knows something, otherwise he would say.
