'Having found something that worked on Sunday we were then unfortunately compromised by a lack of side grip so were unable to ride to our full potential' - Ben Spies

I have to agree with the last post.

Crutchlow and Dovi are outperforming Spies so far this season, only a fool would try and suggest otherwise.

We currently have 3 yanks in moto gp, one is edwards whose time has been and gone, Hayden is on the Ducati so say no more, and then theres Spies, who has had 2 years on a works bike and still doesnt look like he could ever be a title contender.

Out of the 3, i think that Hayden could do the best witha decent bike at the moment. You only have to see what Rossi is doing on the Ducati to realise that. 2 seasons ago, Rossi was winning races left right and centre, and now he's battling with Hayden on the same bike. This would suggest that the riders have equal talent.

I have a feeling that Spies will keep his ride, and if he does, and still cant beat the Tech3 guys convincingly, which is whats expected at the very minimum, then it will ironically be due to his passport. Which would be very ironic indeed, and a mockery to the sport.

@ James

"it will be due to his passport."

It's not just the marketing thing. Yamaha are without a team sponsor right now, and their options are somewhat limited. Spies is bankrolled by Yamaha US (just as they bankrolled Edwards at Tech 3), and that's a big plus for retaining Spies, while neither Dovi nor Cal have a sponsor to pay their wages (tho Cal would net a modest amount of Dorna cash for the team).

The only guy who could have supplanted Spies on that basis is Rossi, but he would have needed a huge sponsorship deal to pay for all of his personal retinue to be moved over to Yamaha, and in these harsh economic times it's not an easy thing to do.

In the end, there are powerful marketing and financial incentives to re-signing Spies, and none of the candidates for his seat have impressed sufficiently to outweigh those. If they had won races and regularly beaten the Repsol Hondas it would be different. Spies remains the best option for them taking everything into consideration.

Anyone here know how you win a race? You lead laps. Preferably the last one. Can any of these pretenders claim to have led more laps(or any for that matter) than Spies This(or any)Season. There you have it you British Surrender Monkeys. Spies keeps his seat based on Pure outright speed. Dream on Cal and Dovi fans!

Ben is a very good rider but this grid is full of better riders Ben has the same bike as the Championship leader Lorenzo and is last factory rider in the championship where are all the other factory team riders in the championship? next to each other thats were they are.
Ben is doing far from a good job at the moment if he keeps his seat it is because of his passport not his performance this year

Any good factory isn't gonna give a guy who hasn't even finished in the top 3 a factory ride,Cal has only had 5 decent MotoGp races in 2 years..The Brit's on here are desperate for a Hero, Is Cal the best rider Britian has to offer? What has he done in the past, win a WSS title barely? Anything else to convince a good factory to let him ride there factory bike?
Why do you Brits feel the need to slag on Ben Spies when clearly he is superior to any English rider in the last 20 years..the Stats don't lie!!!
1-only 5 decent races in MotoGP
2-Can't beat his teamate
3-Can't finish in the top 3
4-Crashes way too much
Sounds like a perfect fit at Ducati!!! Hahaha
Sometimes the truth hurts...Ben Spies signs a two year contract with Factory Yamaha!!!
