In-form Andrea Dovizioso makes a strong start at his home Italian Grand Prix at Mugello by getting within 0.2secs of the ultimate pace on hard tyres.

Dovi is exceptional at this track, and I can see him being the 2nd best Yamaha behind Lorenzo again on Sunday. He won't find it as easy to keep riders behind him as he did at Sachsenring because there are more passing lines here, but if past form here is anything to go by, he'll be in the mix for a podium again on Sunday.

One thing in my mind that I can't dispel is that are they on the same bikes? Matt Roberts wrote this in an article on the BBC website:-

Indeed, in the post-race test at Barcelona last month, he was entrusted with a new engine and electronics package which he used to set the fastest time of the day, some seven tenths of a second quicker than Lorenzo's best effort in the previous day's race.

He backed that up with an impressive display at Aragon later that week, assessing a revised engine spec and giving additional feedback to Yamaha's engineers, and after crashing out of the next race at Silverstone he has followed up with back-to-back podiums at Assen and Sachsenring.

Dovizioso is a likeable character (if a bit shy) and he's got serious speed in him.

The sad fact is that he is in the "nearly but not quite" spot as far as his performances in general ar econcerned, especially last year on the Honda.

Hope ya hope you beat Cal... then maybe yamaha will reward him with Bradley Smith's old seat back in moto2 b/c they foresure aint gonna hand him Ben's seat and the only way he'll keep his, is if Cal goes to Ducati which is a carrier killer for him...
