Jorge Lorenzo sets a competitive benchmark for others to follow as he impresses with his pace over a single lap and a long run at Mugello.

Got to the results page on look at FP2 analysis. Lorenzo's times are insane, every lap is in the 1:48 range and he finished by running off a long string of 1:48 laps. If this is a preview of the race, the others are in big trouble. Amazing!

Bridgestone requested riders that if they want to use the hard tyre (not semi-hard, not extra-hard) for the race, they must do a 12-lap stint on them during practice or they won't be allowed to use it in the race, for safety reasons.

Because of this, Lorenzo only pitted once in the whole session. Other riders will need to do this long stint tomorrow if they want to use the tyre for the race (it's the most likely choice for most).

So Lorenzo's speed and pace is doubly impressive, considering he couldn't pit to make any adjustments to the bike. I suspect that tomorrow he will lap in the 47s easily. Pedrosa is looking strong too.

Yes, nice but it's just practice. I'm sure Pedrosa and Stoner will be up there along with the usual cast of characters. Hope it's a good race that doesn't get decided until the last corner of last lap. I started laughing as I wrote that, okay we're talking about Motogp so any fight toward the front will be better than usual.

And that silence your hear is the loud thinking back at Honda HRC engineering department.

All the power in the world can't stop Lorenzo.
