I still remember how excited I was when an American named Johnny Allen, back in the late 50s, broke the World Land Speed Record at Bonneville Salt Flats. It was 1956 or 1957 (I was 14 or 15yrs old at the time) and his speed was about 1 mile an hour less than Hectors.!!?!??!
I can't remember the capacity, but it was a Triumph.

It's not comparable because MotoGP bikes didn't advance in a way to gain more top speed in the same way F1 didn't - there are corners on a circuit. All the engineering would be focused on getting in and out of corners faster than everybody else with top speed taking a backseat, Yamaha prime example.

Interesting to see the speed gap between fastest and slowest also reduce by class type. Not surprised that MotoGP has the biggest gap, I would guess last year that gap was smaller without CRTs.

The real shame is Moto2. Those times should be closer, since they all have the same engine. Besides, Elena is lighter than most of the men, so in theory the same engine is pulling a lighter load which you would think gives an advantage. Look at Pedrosa on starts... Well, corner exit speed off the final turn is probably the difference maker in Moto2, just surprised its not closer.

Well, Elena is the only person left on Moriwaki which has been a bit of a slug all year (slowests by 5km/h) - Westy who is in the same team but on a Speed Up is 10km/h faster! If you are slow through the corner then you will be slow down the straight.

Petrucci is peddling it hard considering he is 10mph on the other CRT bikes!

The Mahindras are still a work in progress on the engine front but still doesn't have the speed on grunt, they could at least get the top speed out of the tw0-stroke.
