MotoGP » Lorenzo to Ben Spies: Stay calm and focused

“I don't think it's a question of talent or speed... If Ben is focused and calm he can be on the podium and sometimes win” – Jorge Lorenzo.

@Hookem, so do you think he has earnt a contract renewal?

As said, most riders on the grid have things preventing them from doing better. Unless they win every single race, every single rider in fact.

Spies won his race and you cant take that aay from him, buts lets not forget that is was under 'circumstances', and theres other that riders have won a race under 'circumstances' too, Dovi and CV as examples. It doesnt mean their the next champion or in any way deserving of a contract renewal with a factory team.

@ Hemmy

"buts lets not forget that is was under 'circumstances'"

I agree there were circumstances at Assen last year. Sic took Lorenzo out of the race. But I could have sworn Casey Stoner who just so happened to be the 2011 World Champion MotoGP rider was riding in that race. As was Dani Pedrosa.

Mr. Spies smoked em at Assen and your assesment that "cirumstances" should tarnish the win in some way is your opinion.

Just like you said Hemmy:

"As said, most riders on the grid have things preventing them from doing better. Unless they win every single race, every single rider in fact."

Every single race has circumstances. But of course it is different if it is Ben Spies I guess.

@ das boots

"@Hookem As far as contracts go, the year is over for Ben. It seems in GP most contracts are signed by about halfway, so a rider has to proof his worth in the first half."

This is usually the case. But it seems a rider named Casey Stoner announced his retirement at the end of the 2012 season.

Which I feel will change the "usual" signing by mid-season routine MotoGP usually follows. Dovi is a great rider and by the numbers should have a shot at getting the #2 seat at Yamaha.

That being said, with all the contracts that expire at the end of the season only Pedrosa and Lorenzo are not up in the air.

The Stoner situation in my opinion has pushed foward the usual time rider contracts are settled. I would think all the manufacturers are scrambling around trying to figure out what they want to do.

IMHO of course !!!

Hookem, no im not suggesting that it tarnishes his win at all. Im simply saying that it was won under 'circumstances'.

Im not sure if your suggesting that Spies should keep his ride because he won at assen over a year ago, but it sound slike you are? I know that if you do think this, your certainyl not the only one.

Oh, and by the way, you say you could have sworn that Casey and Dani were racing at Assen last year when Ben won? Well Stoner was there yes (and yes he had tyre issues - is that an excuse, a fact, or a 'circumstance', you decide), but Dani was certainly NOT at Assen last year.

So, i ask again, do you think that Spies deserves a contract renewal?

As many have already said, if he does manage to keep his ride, it wont be because of his win at Assen thats for sure.

I for one do not have a direct line to Miss Cleo and really have no idea what will happen to Mr. Spies ride. Do I want him to stay with Yamaha? Of course I do. But there are many variables at play here. Some in Ben's favor some are clearly not.

Obviously there are many factors involved that Yamaha will have to consider. Pros and Cons if you will. So to answer you question does Spies deserve a contract renewal? My answer is that it is premature to make the decision at this time.

And again Casey's tyre problem at Assen was a circumstance or fact if you will. Mr. Spies performance to date in the 2012 season...Excuses...You decide.

@ Hemmy

It is fairly obvious that you think Ben Spies does not desevre to keep his seat at Yamaha. For whatever reasons you may have.

My question to you is who do you think should get Mr. Spies seat at Yamaha and why?

If there is a way for Yamaha to remove Ben then it will happen.

Lets see.... Will the Americans mind if we replace Ben with Valentino?

After Lugana Seca 2008 I would have thought the answer is pretty obvious.

It all comes down to Yamaha USA. And what Rossi wants to do.

Spies may not be resigned by the yamaha factory team, but i do not think he is leaving GP. There are other options.

What is the contract status of the other satellite and CRT riders?

Hookem, it onyl requires a yes or no instead of skirting around the question lol!

Ill re-phrase the question then.....

'At this point in the season, do you think Spies deserves a contract renewal?'

In answer to your question, of course i dont think Spies deserves a contract renewal. I dont think theres many impartial people who think that he does deserve a contract renewal.

Of course, naturally his fans want him to keep his seat, but i cannot see how any of his fans can possible say he deserves to keep it. The only defense they seem to have is that he won a Assen a year ago.

In my opinion, Dovi (and maybe even Cal) deserve a shot at it, much more than Ben deserves to keep it. Dovi would be the obvious 1st choice, simply because he is putting Spies to shame. Cal is also putting Spies to shame but on a lesser scale.

No one can possibly say that Dovi does not deserve this seat over Spies when he is beating him hands down. The fact he did not become an alien with Honda cannot be use
