MotoGP » Lorenzo to Ben Spies: Stay calm and focused

“I don't think it's a question of talent or speed... If Ben is focused and calm he can be on the podium and sometimes win” – Jorge Lorenzo.

"But if Yamaha of America insists on having an American on the #2 bike so badly, I gotta ask, why isnt Hayden in the discussion?"

I agree with you. If they're wishy/washy on Ben and Cal and Dovi are willing to sell their first born child to get the Factory Yamaha ride, why would they NOT talk to Nicky first?? You know, one of the four in MotoGP with a title to his name??? (Rossi, Hayden, Stoner, Lorenzo).

It doesn't matter to me, but I know if Hayden was on a better bike he wouldn't be wallowing around in mid pack all the time but closer to the podium. We know the guy can get on the rostrum often (2005-2006).

As for Ben, I think him and Hayden should swap spots. Let Spies come to Ducati and see what trouble the Ducati is right now...

I think Spies needs a confidence booster(obviously)He's preseason form and confidence went down the drain in Qatar with a fall and a faulty frame, I still think that Spies is the right team mate for Lorenzo, but if he is to stay, there needs to be a major shake up in his crew now so things start changing from now, instead of playing catch up next season. Spies needs to focus on racing, not cycling teams, get a sports psychologist(it works)plus a couple of home races coming up should put him back on track, but again his crew needs to go, they've proven to be very incompetent all year!!!

As someone earlier stated someone (probably several of them) are going to get screwed shortly. Ben is having the season from hell and it couldn't come at a worse time. Ben is imminently capable, but too much has gone wrong this season to not look at making a change, either rider or crew. He has led a few races (few others have)this year so the speed is obviously there. Dovi has to be getting sick of out-riding a lot of guys and getting not much for it. Dovi's problem is a personality/marketability issue. Cal is showing good speed but far less control than his teammate. Nicky is in purgatory right now. I have no doubt that even if Nicky would have put the Ducati on the Podium at Mugello he would still be the odd man out at Ducati. That is Tragic! Reminds me of his treatment at Repsol Honda in 2007 or Dovi's in 2011. I would like to See Nicky on the Gresini Honda for 2013 Honestly.

But back to Ben. I truly hope he can have a clean race or two just to get his feet under him again. Best

"At this point Ben seems to be unsure of what was the cause of his strange malady that came over him overnight before the race. This could well be a case of nerves or extreme pressure which is far more difficult to control."

Lactose intolerance maybe? :)

I expect Spies will do better in front of his home crowds, particularly if his problems are confidence related, which could then settle him for the remainder of the season. His comments about passports and Marquez were sheer hubris however, and they will be thrown back at him if he keeps getting beaten by satellite riders yet retains his place in the factory squad thanks to his US passport.

Something doesn't add up here to me as Ben Spies is not this bad a rider! I've no idea what is going on, but Ben seems to have just lost any sort of enthusiasm and effort!!Maybe it is politics at work and Ben isn't happy but just not letting on, but there is something afoot!
