MotoGP » Lorenzo to Ben Spies: Stay calm and focused

“I don't think it's a question of talent or speed... If Ben is focused and calm he can be on the podium and sometimes win” – Jorge Lorenzo.

I beleave if Tech3 were to get a full factory bike it would only happen if Ben Spies was riding it(with Yamaha USA backing),one has to wonder if Yamaha may also been looking to Moto2 for a Prototype rider..other then Bradley Smith who I still think hasn't proved enough to deserve a M1,there are a few riders that can match Marquez and look how well Bradl is doing,in my opinion the next new MotoGp champion will come from Moto3-Moto2 long before WSBK produces a consistant winner.
DonR may have a different veiw

@ Don-R & RocketR1. Don - I see your point about Dovi's view. The factory door at Honda is closed to him, so if Yam lock him out as well then (without the Duke miraculously getting competitive) his chances at a MotoGP title look doomed. So why stay - makes sense. Shame though - I think Dovi could just be better on the Yam than he was on the Honda and be a real threat.

I'm undecided about Brad.. he seems to be riding the wheels off that Mistral every corner of every lap, every race. He doesn't generally fade and is fit and very determined. He may gel with a MotoGP bike.

But.. if Dovi left Tech3, then HP's '3 bums and only 2 seats dilemma is solved. But would HP then try to keep Cal alongside Brad (CC could do a lot worse, and the Duke contract doesn't seem a done deal?)? 2 Brits in a French team - would they want that?

@Rocket R1

Plus BMW will see Spies as a big coup to help there bike sales in America and Ducati will want to retain Hayden for there sales in America too plus both can still do a job at WSB no doubt.

Rumours are strong that if Dovi doesnt get a Factory Yamaha ride then Aprilia will make a big money deal to see another Italian in WSB alongside Biaggi and for the Future as it would mean MotoGP dreams for Dovi would be gone with Honda already shut door on Dovi and Yamaha could do too

Lorenzo probably doesn't want to seem stuck up, but the best advice he could give to Spies would be to change his riding style.

People bring up Ben's performances in AMA and WSBK often in defense, but people forget that MotoGP is on another level than those two championships.

Is motogp on a different level or just a different style,One has to wonder if Jorge was riding a R1 would Ben be giving him advice?
Ill go out on a limb and say spies would no doubt be the faster of the two on a superbike..doesn't make him a better rider just means he's riding a bike that his style suits.

@ there there now

It seems my answer to your question regarding VR and any 'advantages' have been considered by Crash to be unsuitable in some way - as they have simply disappeared! No 'deleted post' or slap on the wrist - just vanished without trace.

Perhaps you can't voice an opinion here if it involves suggesting anything constructively critical (Note not offensive or strong-worded) to do with the politics of the sport and how this can affect on-track results?

I'd love Crash to explain this one? People can spout as much rubbish and vitriol as they like, as long as they don't actually put anything thought-provoking perhaps?

Poor show Crash, very, very poor. Delete this as well eh?

Wishful thinking. Superbikes are much easier to ride than the current MotoGP bikes which is why Superbike is a more open and competitive championship, and why riders who have failed in MotoGP can succeed there.

Besides, not all MotoGP bikes are the same, neither are all Superbikes.

Oh, and if Lorenzo can win on an M1, he could thrash the competition on an R1.

Something to note on the whole Dovi & Tech3 situation.

At the beginning of the season, Dovi made a very bold statement saying "I want out of Tech3". Even in the context of wanting to be in a factory team, what team manager wants to hear this from his rider?

Since that happened, have you seen Herve down with the other Tech3 guys when Dovi gets a podium? No...He's with Cal straight after the race. It might mean nothing at all, but surely there's a reason for it?

I highly doubt we will see Dovi at Tech3 next year.
