There's one big problem with Dovi going to Ducati. It's called Cal Crutchlow. Last I checked, Cal Crutchlow had agreed to a two year contract with Ducati, the only thing he was waiting on is the paper to sign his name on. Ducati were meant to produce the papers at Mugello, but didn't. Now, if they fail to sign Crutchlow they'll have lost face, and they don't have the bike to justify backing out on a high profile, very public deal.

If Crutchlow is not on a factory Ducati next year, I'll have lost my respect for Ducati as a team. If it wasn't for Valentino Rossi still being in MotoGP next season, and the debuts of Smith and (most likely) Redding, then Ducati not signing Crutchlow would make me contemplate abandoning MotoGP altogether.

@ Md Zane

Furusawa and Ducati? Dude....he declined their offer. He is loyal to Yamaha.

@ VLG

Crutchlow will not be on a Ducati next year, so save yourself the diatribe and defect. Dovi has the seat!

This is a very strange decision by Dovi, he surely realizes his style is not well suited to the Ducati being similar to Rossi's and Jorge's smoother riding style, i believe Cruthlow would of been a much wiser choice, unless he knows they are going to completely re engineer the Ducati along similar lines to Japanese way of building Moto Gp bikes.

Leefoth you're right that Pedrosa may not be as strong as Lorenzo but he can factor in to championships results as he can run away with wins every once in awhile. Obviously, without Stoner next year that Lorenzo will be the odds-on favorite to win but Rossi and Pedrosa will make it interesting if they can stay healthy and ride to their ability. You're also right that Rossi's age will have something to do with it and I'd add the confidence smashing he's had over the last 3 years (2 w/Duc and part of other year with injuries) will be a hurdle for him.

As someone stated, next years championship will be decided between Rossi and Jorge.. barring no injuries. Dani has been on that Repsol bike for 7 years and has done absolutely nothing, he took a win here and there but was never consistently a front runner. Marquez is an unknown quantity, and new to the class so it will be a learning year for him. Let the 2013 racing season begin.

@there there now

It's my belief that they realised that if they went with Crutchlow they'd be hoping to 'get lucky' with another of the (apparantly only 1) riders whose style gelled with the Ducati.

By choosing Dovi, they've acknowledged that if you're going Grand Prix racing you need to make a bike that can be ridden with the Grand Prix smooth style, so they're not expecting to win with him but they are hoping he can help them develop a machine that can be ridden better by all.
