MotoGP » Valentino Rossi out-qualified by CRT at Indy

"This track has strange asphalt that has less grip than what we're used to but that still wears the tyres" - Valentino Rossi.

@ Martin. I'v e said this before, but it did occur to me that being sacked by Ducati (apart from the ignominy of it) might actually be what Rossi wants?

I don't know, but if he was out-of-contract after being fired, then wouldn't this neatly get him out of the ride and out of contract? If VR was not a contracted MotoGP rider, then would the rules then permit Rossi to immediately start testing the Yamaha as much as he likes ready for 2013?

If so - then Ducati have a conundrum - keep paying his salary while he just rides it around, or pay him to sit on his backside, or sack him and let him get the jump on everyone for 2013? I think it's a stunt that VR might just try to pull - it's smart (if it is possible)?

One quick lap on a Q tyre is no good if you carn't start the race. Who's smart enough to know its no good being a hero for one lap then not getting to see the chequered flag.

Irrespective of whether Rossi is currently pushing to the limit or not the partnership has not worked. Both parties have seen their image tarnished. Now that Rossi has announced his divorce from Ducati they should move quickly to throw him out of the Ducati home. In business it's called garden leave. You pay his contract but ask him to stay at home pending the start of his new contract. Time for Ducati to show the yellow one the door! And quick!

@ Mack-the-Knife. I've said the same things. The real interest now will be how Rossi does today, and how hard he is considered to be trying.

Without Nicky, he ought to be at the very least being inside the top 8 (and that is looking at form and being very kind to Rossi). If Nicky & Barbera could mix it with the likes of Bautista & Bradl & Cal most weeks then really VR should do the same today. Everyone else will be thinking there's chances to be further up today with the injuries to front-runners - Rossi should be aiming higher than a usual dry result today too.

I see a much bigger problem hear than most,, every Duati that will start today has been outqualified by a CRT, Hayden (who isn't starting today) seems to go quicker that Vale over 1 lap because he rides with shear determination, there is a fundamental problem with the bike bit most people have just targeted Rossi, a Moto2 WC & a Moto2 race winner have both been outqualified by a CRT and they're both no slouches.

After Hayden's crash Rossi was on a much quicker lap that would have seen him jump de Puniet no doubt but he nearly crashe where Stoner, Spies & Hayden did, now a lot if people are saying he's not pushing it, well that's true but would you push a MotoGP animal after seeing 3 people injure themselves at one corner and you nearly doing the same yourself? I THINK NOT!
