"This track has strange asphalt that has less grip than what we're used to but that still wears the tyres" - Valentino Rossi.

Oh wow! Rossi is the only guy who got out-qualified. Check the previous rounds guys. You might find another rider and he wasn't from the Ducati stable either.

What a lot of you guys do not understand is that Ducati is a business. Ducati nor any other manufacturer enter GP because they love to race, they are there simply to make money. Now for the most part it is not good from a marketing point of view to be midpack, however, Ducati have V Rossi, love or hate him, he is the biggest marketing tool that has ever adorned the sport, he is collosal. Ducati race MotoGP to sell bikes and that is exactly what VR has done for them. If as you Stoner lovers / Rossi haters suggest, VR should be replaced, if that was the correct thing for Ducati to do from an economic perspective, that is what they would do. Does the fact that they are not sending him home early not tell you anything??????
Please, if you respond to my post, do it with fact and logic....

To TalentFan - If Nicky & Barbera could mix it with the likes of Bautista & Bradl & Cal most weeks then really VR should do the same today.

Fair enough. Out of interest, by how much have the RACE RESULTS of Nicky Hayden & Hector Barbera differed to Valentino Rossi?

GP Mark,

I haven't seen any Ducati ads touting, "The great Valentino Rossi can't perform at the same level of average riders you don't even know, but buy a Ducati anyway and we'll put yellow stickers on it that are a perfect accent to your #46 leathers, "The Doctor" t-shirt and Donkey Helmet."

Rossi didn't sell bikes, the big market is the US, where they had a Hayden replica and grew by selling lower priced bikes to take a fraction of a decimal points percentage of sales from the Japanese to boost their value in the sale.

I've heard over and over people say that Ducati should get rid of Rossi and replace him with Bayliss. People seem to forget that Bayliss rode the factory Ducati for two years and then the Camel Honda for one year. In all three years in MotoGP Bayliss never won a race, let alone a single MotoGP championship. Rossi has 9 championships which makes him one of the most successful racers of all time. Of Stoner's 23 race wins on the Ducati, he only won 4 in 2009 and 3 in 2010. The Ducati was clearly on a downward spiral. All four Ducati riders in 2012 are having problems with the bike, not just Rossi. Stoner clearly rode the Ducati to its limit but he also had 5 DNF's in 2010 alone. The Ducati is a problem bike period! :p
