MotoGP » Casey Stoner: MotoGP title hopes 'finished'

“It's disappointing that in Indy we had a good chance to get some points back, but now it's finished our championship” – Casey Stoner.

I have great respect for a racer who puts his hands up and says its game over. There is nothing worse than those who pretend with something like "I'll be straight back on the bike after the operation, I'll ride through the pain barrier, I'll win these races" etc, etc./

This thread is not about Rossi, drop it !

Not a Stoner fan as such but I wish him a fast recovery and to be back in time to race competitively at Phillip Island. Even though the title race is over for him lets enjoy the battle between Lorenzo and Pedrosa.

The best sendoff these 2 can give him is to race him hard on his home track and for once I am happy to see him on the top step. After that stay home Casey, put your feet up, watch Valencia on your TV or just go fishing.

sorry off topic.
imo every rider has their own charisma and if all of them have the same personality, it'll be kinda boring. It's just that, more often than not, the top riders are, whether they like it or not, forced into the spotlight, making them the target of both praises and slams. I for one watch motogp just for the excitement it gives me, knowing that i can never be as fast as they all are. I have my motogp hero, though.. and there's simply nothing i can do to stop people from, especially slamming him. No rider is perfect, but their skills are.. cheers.. :)

Just additional proof that in MotoGP consecutive championships are not easy to come by. Of course Rossi had a run of five and then two more, but for anybody else, you have to return to the 20th century for it to have happened. This ought to puts things in the proper perspective.

Hurry the hell back so that you can resume your role as 'team mate' to Dani. We need someone who can take points from Lorenzo.

It appears that your the only one with a shot.

Dani for WC!

go Dani!

Sad for Stoner to miss so many races but it would've been an uphill struggle anyway so why risk permanent injury when he's retiring? It's convenient for HRC, however, that he can't take points of Pedrosa now until perhaps the last 3 races. Would Stoner help his teammate win the championship when he's retiring and has nothing to lose? Surely he'd rather prove a point by winning his last race(s). If the points are close at Phillip Island, can HRC take the risk of him disobeying team orders? What are the chances his bike suffers a mysterious electrical problem? I can imagine Shuhei Nakamoto paraphrasing Marsellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction, "Your ass goes down. The day of the race, you may feel a slight sting. That's pride f***ing with you." Stoner has said that sometimes a racer has to swallow his pride, but I think it's more likely he'll try to do what Butch did instead.
